Wounded in World War 2, he was spotted by a talent scout while window shopping in London and began his film career as a centurion in Caesar and Cleopatra (1945). A stuntman, stunt coordinator and stunt double who worked on The Adventures of Robin Hood (1955-59), The Avengers (1964, 1967-9), Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) (1969), Danger Man (1965), Blakes 7 (1979), The Saint (1966 and 1968), The Persuaders! (1971), and The Prisoner (1968; he also created the idea for the episode Living In Harmony). He co-wrote, as Frank J. Maher, three action novels with Denis J. Cleary, and wrote (uncredited) action sequences for Die Hard (1988).
