Parodies

Helena Mad magazine's British edition covered Space: 1999 in 1975, alongside the King Kong remake. This strip was written by Hitch Hitchings and drawn by Alf Saporito. Non-Brits may be confused by references to Dennis Healey, Hughie Greene and Coronation Street! There a some good jokes (especially the dig at Helena's range of expression...) but overall it lacks the humour of their film adaptions.

Cracked magazine (a rival to Mad) also did a parody. Again, it is not terribly funny, but there are some good gags in there.

Crazy magazine (another Mad clone) did a parody in the 20th October 1976 edition, with particular emphasis on Helena's emotional range... Set your stun guns to "tickle".

Rocket's Blast Comicollector (RBCC) No 128 and 135 (1976, 1977) had savage looks at year 1 and year 2 by Ronald Wilber

Ti Faccio un Cratere Cosi (1979) is an Italian parody magazine (thanks to Stefano and the Moonbase99 club)

A great cartoon by Steve Kyte (1982) showing Helena winning first prize in the Lady Penelope school of acting.

Viz magazine's crude and vicious satire is a 1990s phenomenon in Britain. A dig at the Spice Girls put them in an outer space adventure...
