The film Sunday (1997) won The Grand Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival, and she was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress.
In 1997 she moved to the US with her husband, whale-biologist Roger Payne, and her son Tim (by actor Sam Neill). She has continued to perform in theatre in the US, and to promote environmental causes (see her website).

Says Hewett: Space 1999 which I worked on for 3 weeks I also have a good memory of - despite the fact I was in suspended animation a lot of the time! Christopher Lee (who was famous at that time for his Dracula roles) had very piercing dark eyes which were quite hypnotic. I remember he would go to his dressing room at lunchtime and sing Opera, he had a good voice and it was amazing to hear.
