I still like Season Two bette, I thought the addition of Tony and Maya. I missed see Alan as much though I thing Tony and Alan should have been buddies, maybe with Sondra thrown in.

I think Tony and Alan would have ended up being pretty tight as well with in the context of the characters. I think the actual actors were sort of competing over screen time because they were both viaing for the action adventure hero role.

I doubt it. They were two distinct, completely different personalities. Many times it appeared that Carter tolerated Verdeschi. In y2, Verdeschi was a loud mouth, obnoxious bully. Carter wasn't as loud and often only "commented" non-verbally. One of the scenes that is classic and probably speak volumes of their interaction is from The Seance Spectre. While Carter is bringing Koenig/Maya's wrecked Eagle back from Tora, Verdeschi is drumming his fingers impatiently on the console. Carter gives him an annoyed look. Verdeschi stops and backs off. Heh heh heh... |

I prefere so far first season with Victor Bergman and for adventures: in first season, Helena and Koenig (and others) are always present in adventures whereas in second season, they are often separate (in "the role of luton" we can only see Maya and Koenig, in "the mark of Arkanon" Koenig and Maya are absent, in "Devil's planet" we can only see Koenig...).

Pros for season 1: - Geared more toward potential science fact 25 years into the future. - "This Episode" clips in the title sequence. - A more ensemble cast (Paul, Tanya, Kano, Mathais). - An excellent pilot episode "Breakaway". Cons for season 1: - Unnatural chemistry between Koenig and Russell. - Hardly any comic relief. Pros for season 2: - Dazzling title sequence, explaining the premise. - Koenig and Russell more open about their relationship. - Some good light-hearted moments. - Nicer effects, especially firing the hand laser. - Nicer uniforms and belts (too bad the senior staff had to wear jackets over them). - Alan's character fleshed out in Nick Tate's final appearance. Cons for season 2: - Female Alphans in skirts and long boots. - "Dorzak" - where's Koenig? and "Devil's Planet" - where's everybody else? - Preposterous stories and dialog (this pretty much mucked eveything up). Overall, Season1 was more substance than style while season 2 was pretty much style and nothing else. My vote goes to season 1. |

this time, I'll save one by one The worst point of Y2 to me is the trailer, or what we call in french "le gnrique". In Y1 we had the routine of five minutes where Alpha is put in a situation and then, waow!!!, the impressive hieratic apprearance of Landau and Bain, superb music, eagle falling down, then the string, great show! As a teenager, I loved that music so much. At the end of the program I bitterly regretted not having recorded it. Then they announced a new season. At the first airing, I was ready, with a cheap microphone to tape the music live. No video at that time. What a desapointment : it was not the same music. I sadly get back to my room, sulking the tape. I had some hearings a little while after, trying to remember Y1. Otis. |

Hello, I prefer Season 1 at all. Many episodes are...irrational, or have no sense at all.... But the "philosophical thoughts" of some characters (like Bergman's in The Black Sun) are very deep and intense. Bye, Dada Baggins |

Personally, I prefer Year <transmission broken by static> for the obvious reasons. [This 100th post by RBAdams brought to you by Lyons Maid Ice Lollies.] http://www.space1999.net/~catacombs/main/m...lyonsmaid0.html |

[URL=http://www.fly.to/usonia] Usonia and Unity Studios Obiviously, this is a very personal topic to a lot of us. I am in some agreement with Space 1999!, and I became a film and television producer-director after the university experience. Mostly based on the inspiration from Gerry Andersons wonderful production values and story content. Both years of 1999, as the series was so progressive for its time, seemed to have EVOLUTION at their core. I admire Year One for sheer scope and style, but at the same time Space: 1999 helped me, probably guided by style and timeline we were headed into, become not only computer friendly and an expert in some areas, however I evolved as well. We all have a bit of the Alphan in us. So, I hesitate sometimes to tread into deep waters about which year is better - I LOVE THEM BOTH! It was especially the futuristic use of sythesizers that captivated my musical imagination. I still have the original LP of the Barry Gray sountrack. I still have and ocassionally read the Officail Moonbase Alpha Technical Guide ordered in the early 80's from STARLOG magazine. Don't think now that I am a collector of all the merchandise. I merely agree with Space 1999! in the fact that I knew in 1975/76 that the series was coming to a close. It was inevitable. It was/is the most expensive television show in history! One will find that in several interviews, referencing and comparing it to production values. Morally, scientifically, creatively and on and on, the people involved in this - well now into the 21st Centruy - it's more than a mere TV program to a great many of you. What does the next person have to say about how Year One/Two has been better than one another, or bettered him/her? |
