Speaking of a new commander Koenig, should any of Koening character/personality traits be tweaked? Seems to me Koenig might have gotten flustrated and raised his voice a few more times than he did. |

That's an issue I've often wondered about. Commander Koenig can sometimes seem a bit impulsive, but I think we have to remember that his situation is nothing like, say, Captain Kirk's or even Dylan Hunt's (Andromeda). Commander Koenig is a man placed under the constant stress of being the top of the chian of command in a situation that is always, at best.....dire in the extreme. Even Captain Janeway & Stanley Tweddle (Lexx) at least have the option of changing their direction. All the Commander and his crew can hope for is that providence hurls the Moon into a direction that is desirable (with the help of the occasional space warp). That the Commander keeps his sanity at all shows me an amazing level of will and mental fortitude on his part.

Hey! Why isn't Jim Carrey on the list of actors to play Koenig? |
||

Because if Jim Carrey plays Commander Koenig then that means Lisa Kudrow has to play Dr. Russell with Ben Stiller as Victor and Paul Hogan as Alan. |

For some reason I just think of Brendan Fraser for Koenig. And for Russell... I've often felt that Michele Pfeiffer and Barbara Bain bear a very striking resemblance to one another. Not now, obviously...but if you see publicity pictures of Barbara Bain in her heyday [there is one in particular on her website on the opening page that immediately comes to mind] and you look at Pfeiffer...there really is a very strong resemblance. |

Well, I can't vote again but I would give serious consideraton to Ralph Fiennes as Koenig if Liam Neeson was unavailable. I've seen him in several roles now and he has that sense of strength and vulnerability at the same time. The right actor for John is so important as he always has this air of mystery or of holding back something. In fact, it was Johnny Byrne himself who hinted at the MainMission: 2000 convention that perhaps Koenig either knew the Breakaway disaster would happen or could happen even before he arrived. I'm not quite sure exactly what he was suggesting but it gave a fascinating perspective to the Mysterious Unknown Force idea... what is it? what does it want? and what is it going to do and who might know about it? Also, regarding the role of Helena, my wife and I were watching the movie Intersection and the hands-down winner for the part has to be Sharon Stone. It was kind of eerie how she kind of resembles Barbara and has that same kind of cool, detached demeanor. These of course would be for a serious, Year One style of movie. I do find the idea of an unconventional group such as Jim Carrey a bit of a scream if it was done without trying to parody the show but give us a different flavour instead. |

Jim Carey would be an excellent choice for Koenig if they made a comedy like the season 2 style. Goldie Hawn or if she's too old, (probably for s2 she would be) or her daughter Kate Hudson would make a good s2 Helena Sharon Stone could make a good Helena. I would like to see them try to avoid a Helena lookalike, maybe going with a brunette instead. But I really have no clue who would make a good Helena? Anyone have any thoughts who they'd like to see in a S99 remake in season 1 style? |

Juliette Landau as Helena...just dye her hair blonde! Elizabeth Hurley as Maya. Jack |

Elizabeth Hurley would certainly be a perfect Miya. I've always thought that Emma Thompson (Sense and Sensibility) would make a great Doctor Russell.

Emma Thompson would indeed be good as Dr. Russell. Jack |

I think the absolute perfect Maya would be Deborah Messing [Grace from Will and Grace]--particularly because she's a striking red-head and she has that same sort of comedic/pixie-ish flair that Catherine Schell has.
| Validus 12 Feb 2003 06:36:58 |
I think I'd still stick with Elizabeth Hurley because Catherine Schell was British and if they did another series/film I'd want that sense of "continuity". But Deborah would probably be my second pick.....she does have the perfect look & personality for an "American" Maya.

Tom Hanks would make a good Koenig in a big movie version. Need a slightly more flattering costume though I fear.

I would go with Michael O'Hare as Koenig. O'Hare played on Babylon 5.

I love Tom Hanks... I think it's a very good idea. |

The only problem with Tom Hanks playing Koenig is.......well two problems actually- 1. Trying to have him avoid the line "Housten, we have a problem." 2. If he playes Koenig inevitably Meg Ryan will have to play Dr. Russell, and if that happened I'd have to grab my pistol and shoot someone several times just to feel better about it. |

Sorry, but I think Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan make up a beautiful couple.
| Validus 17 Feb 2003 17:23:58 |
Well........I'll grant that they do make a sweet couple, but I just have a hard time visualizing them on the Moon. But hey- that's just me. |

Perhaps you prefere another couple. What do you think about Kevin Kline and Sygourney Weaver? |
