I think Kevn Spacey and Annette Benning would be far more dynamic as Koenig and Russel... ph34r.gif

Harrison Ford would have been good 15 years ago, but he's too old now. Kevin Spacey might be good, but I always get the feeling that his characters are always on edge- not a good attribute for the Commander of a Moonbase. How about Martin Sheen?

Very true that Koenig seems very edgy as Commander but then again what other leader in sci-fi has had so much to deal with and so few resources or options?

I think it would have been a nice touch in the early episodes to have John confide in Victor something to the effect "how the hell are we going to survive?" or "I don't know exactly what I should do?"

Certainly the responsibility weighs heavily on John but as leader the other Alphans expect him to be the unbreakable mast in the storm and to give the brave face. Perhaps the most palitable example of how John feels is in Collision Course when he says "good luck" to Alan as the charges are about to explode and then must wipe the tears from his eyes. Then shortly after Victor tells John "it was a human decision, none of us would have decided otherwise".

From this it is apparent that they understand the difficulty and strain and NONE of them are seeking to be in command or eager about having to when the situation dictates it. Even when they turn against him in CC it is in the form of consensus and only because they believe John is affected by radiation sickness therefore someone else must take over. We saw this before in Guardian of Piri where a committee reached a decision or in Death's Other Dominion where the decision to leave Alpha was going to be put to a general vote of consensus.

John is undoubtably the Alphan's leader as he is the only one who can stand alone against the odds and they respect this and gladly follow. Can you imagine what Alpha would have been like with Commander Gorski at the helm? A self-serving, spineless bureaucrat who would have been way over his head and probably worse for the Alphans than the Breakaway disaster itself. wink.gif

I added Ed Harris to the list because of his performance in The Abyss and in Apollo 13. Clearly he's good at playing a man in a leadership position. He would certainly be different from Martin Landau, but Martin is...I think we can all agree- unique. smile.gif

Yes he's unique that's why he was Gene Roddenbury first choice for Spock. laugh.gif

Imagine how different that "other" franchise would have been if that had in fact happened. Koenig as a Vulcan? Hmmm..........."facinating." rolleyes.gif

With the hype surrounding the new sequel to "The Matrix" these days, how about Australian actor Hugo Weaving (who plays "Agent Smith") as Koenig?

Weaving's tops on the "simmering anger" thing that Koenig had.

I could so visualize Weaving saying "Doesn't anything work on this base?" biggrin.gif

Hi everybody,
night of the walking deaths, the return of the old thread,
I like this one. Full of wit, imaginative, brilliant..... just like us !

For me, Russel Crowe or Kevin Spacey. I love the agent Smith, but I don't see Alpha's corridor turned up into kung-fu arena.

I think Hugo Weaving, Elrond in LOTR, would be a good choice for Koenig. His scowl is near-perfect. As to Bergman...dunno.

In a remake of Space: 1999, Koenig can be played nicely by a typically unemotional commander as is Martin Landau. I choose Richard Gere for that reason. And I wonder who would score the music and sound effects?!
