Personally I favor Liam Neeson. I like his authority, and he has a style that to me suggests one who is clearly in charge without having to state that fact. He was superb in Schindler's List and was the only thing that made Star Wars Episode I the least bit watchable. |

I agree. Liam Neeson would make an excellent Koenig. I think he captures the essence of the original. |

I prefere tommy lee jones because he has got humour (MIB). |

Personally, I'd vote for Crispin Glover. |

What do you think about Robert de Niro? |
| Validus 13 Jan 2003 20:38:58 |
I can't picture Robert de Niro in any science fiction film, personally. I know that sounds funny coming from me considering he happens to be one of my favorite actors. But for me de Niro is pretty much always a gangster, and I can't imagine him walking around the sets of Moonbase Alpha without half-expecting him to sound like a character from a Martin Scorsese picture. Joe Peschi would have to play Tony and Marisa Tomei would have to play Miya. Call it Goodfellas:1999. Gabrial Byrne would be good, how about him? |

Yeah, I can picture Gabriel Byrne in the role. He's got the proper intensity but he can also play "light" as well. |

Wow. Liam Neeson is an inspired choice and I would wholeheartedly agree. He is a fine actor and has that nice balance of physical presence and humanity. A year or so ago I thought of a few actors and actresses to play the various parts in a remake and I thought that Tim Robbins would make a good Koenig as well. He was superb in The Shawshank Redemption (one of my favourite movies) and I loved how he presented a likeable but aloof individual who was very intelligent and always had a bite about him in how he would stand up to the warden even though he knew he was going to get in shit (i.e. the record scene where he refuses to let the warden into his office and then smiles and turns up the music just to snub him a little Now matter what, a remake or movie with the same feel and scope as Year One using today's technology would be something to see as long as original people were involved such as Johnny Byrne, Christopher Penfold, Keith Wilson and Brian Johnson. Of course we would need someone else to capture Barry Gray's tremendous music... a protege perhaps? |

Hi, This is a reprint of my posting on Online Alpha back in 2001 called "Just for Fun" regarding potential casting for a new movie. I hope you enjoy it... feel free to post any of your suggestions. ...... A month or so ago when the discussions were taking place regarding what the name of a Space: 1999 movie should be, it set my mind to thinking which actors would be right to play the roles. So, just for fun I came up with a few actors and actresses whom I would like to see in the movie (based on Year 1), assuming of course their interest, availability and unlimited funds. Commander Koenig - Tim Robbins Professor Bergman - Anthony Hopkins David Kano - Lawrence Fishburne Commissioner Simmonds - Alan Rickman or Patrick McGoohan Servant to the Guardian - Nicole Kidman The Voice of Computer - Barbara Kelly or Barbara Bain Director - James Cameron or Ridley Scott As for others in the cast I'm having trouble narrowing these ones down: Dr Russell - Jane Seymour, Cherize Theron or Michelle Pfeiffer Alan Carter - Mel Gibson or Russell Crowe? Sandra Benes - Alyssa Milano? Dr. Mathias - Denzel Washington? Tanya Alexandra - Anna Kournakova (Can she act? Does she act? Does it matter? Paul Morrow - can't decide Sorry for the bias towards North American actors, I'm just not that familiar with a lot of the current European actors available. Hope you enjoy the list, feel free to post any other possibles and again, it's just for fun |

Space 1999!- I love some of your ideas, unfortunately to assemble that cast your film is going to need a budget of about $300,000,000! Ridley Scott would certainly be my first choice for a director. Hell, I'd be happy with almost any director as long as it isn't Michael Bay (Armageddon) or Dean Devlon (Independance Day). People in Hollywood can be amazingly stupid at times, they'd probably give a Space:1999 film to someone like Tim Burton...... |

I think Sean connery would be nice in Bergman. He's one of my favorite actors. And for Helena, I vote for Sygourney Weaver. For me it's OK for Gabriel Byrne. |

I think Jean Reno (spelling) would be a nice choice for commander. Daniel Day Lewis is incrediable in Gangs of New York. |
| Flamegrape 15 Jan 2003 16:09:33 |
Actually, I take it back. i vote for Eddie Deezen as Commander Koenig. http://www.eddiedeezen.com |

Flamegrape- You are more evil then Britney Spear's fans.....and you must be destroyed. |
| DX-SFX 15 Jan 2003 21:58:25 |
I think Charlton Heston when he was younger would have made a good Moonbase Commander and perhaps Rene Russo as Helena. |
| Flamegrape 15 Jan 2003 23:37:34 |
Fran Drescher as Maya. |

"The Nanny" as Miya? Shit, if you're gonna go that way you might as well have Vin Diesal play the Commander with Danny DeVito as Victor and Courtney Love as Dr. Russell. Bruce Campbell as Tony Martin Lawrence as Dr. Mathias. John Cleese as Magus. Horatio Santz as Taybor. . . . .and the whole doomed mess could be directed by Tim Burton. (at that moment, Dan got up from the computer. . .tossed a copy of 12 Monkeys into the DVD player. . .and sipped lovingly on a glass of cheap red wine) |
