Well, since I asked for this forum, I might as well start a thread.

Hello, I'm the person who has been working off and on with a Space:1999 eagle flight simulator since the year 1999 itself. I've been picking up and putting down the project for some time now. Since I have other things to do in life, I've been unable to work on it constantly or consistently. The biggest blow to my work (all of my work, not just this flight simulator) occured last year when one of my project hard drives was accidentally erased. I was coming close to releasing a new version of the simulator with a very beautiful new Moonbase Alpha model and eagle model. But all of that was lost and I have yet to restart my work.

I suppose I posted this just to let everyone know that I'm still working on it.

I think an Eagle flight sim is a fine and worthy idea for a videogame project. Is it something you're actually trying to sell on the open market or is it simply something you're doing for yourself? Many years ago (I'm thinking around 1980-81) I seem to recall Atari had a black and white vector graphics game called Lunar Lander. Was your game going to have a similar feel? I remember that Lunar Lander was a game that involved a lot of finesse. . .something I never had.

I'm sorry you lost all your data. Have you tried taking the hard-drive to a data retrival company? It's a longshot but sometimes they can download all the data from a messed up drive. . .just a thought.

I had tried several things to try to restore my lost data. It didn't work and I just moved onward.

The next project that I worked on after I lost the data was the Xev player model:

Next, I'm going to make Kai and Stan models. Then I'll create an arena map based on part of the interior of the Lexx. I'm going to use this as part of a proposal to create a Lexx videogame.

At the same time, I will try to resume work on the eagle flight sim as soon as possible.

I hate to say it, but I might have better luck getting the rights to make a Lexx videogame. Or I might be wrong.

Meanwhile, I have other projects that need work.

If you need any screen grabs for your project, I have a DVD/CD-RW/CD drive in my computer and I freeze frame and save images all the time. Just let me know what you need and I'll be more than happy to help. smile.gif

Yes, yes, I know. It's been a long time. What I have been waiting for was the newest version of the videogame engine. The company who created the first game's engine was 3dRad. Now the company is called 3impact. I knew that there would have been no point in working on the game if they were going to completely rebuild the game engine. I was informed late last month (December 2003) of the impending release date.

I have just purchased and download the latest version of the game engine. I am VERY, VERY impressed. The graphics quality is up-to-date. It supports DirectX 8 (possibly version 9, I'm not sure yet, but it is likely). Can you picture chrome-plated silver eagles? (LOL, I'm just kidding.) The reflection and environment maping on the textures looks very nice. Put simply, it's possible to make it look as good as any modern videogame.

The physics engine is a VAST improvement. After seeing one of the demonstrations, I now know exactly what I will do next with the game idea. In the pilot episode of Space: 1999, the eagles had to remove containers of nuclear waste before it all exploded. It will be possible to recreate this with the videogame. And I am certain that it's possible to replicated the springy "shock absorber" effect of the landing gear. And it just wouldn't be Space: 1999 if the eagle couldn't explode into it's component parts, bouncing around the moonscape!

After the disappointing loss of my project data a few years ago, it's been hard to get back on track with this project. I regularly recieve email inquiries about it. With this new game engine, I am happily looking forward to resuming my work.

Thank you, everyone, who have encouraged me.
