I suppose that my relationship to Y2 is like beeing grateful for a refill after the meal. One does not criticise the little free glass that the host gives away. Beter than nothing. Something like that. But Y1 is still the standard for when giving a statement about "what is Space".

I'm 100% with you there. Maybe the difference between people who accept Y2 and people who curse it is the old half empty/half full glass.

There are good things in Y2. Maya is a good help for the powerless alphans. Her caracter brings something to the show. Somebody mentionned her as the more human person of Y2. There is a balance between her and the needs of alpha in continuation of the Y1 philosophy. It's not Maya the problem, but the rest of the crew ! Let's do a Y3 with Maya only.

That was me. I think that was me. There was a move to do a spin off show with Maya but it never got past the discussion stages. Gerry stayed with Freddie for a bit after Space was cancelled trying to lauch several projects but even in the post Star Wars space craze of the late 1970's it seemed GA couldn't get arressted in the industry!

The music is the biggest problem !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The philosophical moments of Y1 were splendidly enhanced by drammatico-zen piece of music.
Then the Command center. How do you want to philosophise when one cannot swing a cat ? Philosophy needs the ability of leaning back in one's chair.

I like Dereks music very much but the real hero of Space 1999 music is Alan Willis who's choice excellent library music to padded out the lack of original Barry Gray music in Year one. Barry was a genius though and I love his themes.

Captphil, your ten points must be very funny. I unfortunately cannot understand everything.

It's an American thing, take off on a Late Night Talk Show host in NY who does these lists. The drum roll is essential to the joke.

When you hit the quote button it quotes the entire message you are quoting.

THEN I type a little bit of my message, scroll down to edit the message I'm quoting from and make sure I don't delete the html stuff.

I also cut and paste the commands if I am quoting more than one person. There is probably a faster way to do this but that's the way I do it.

Here is what comes at the beginning of a quote
[QUOTE=Otis,Aug 18 2003, 09:44 AM

and this must be at the end

 now you don't see the quote commands because I used the ] bracket and they vanish but the text is in the quote box
