Hello there! I purely reject the idea of a remake. Nobody can replace John or Helena. I prefer to watch a new TV show called "space 2049". According to Sandra in "Message from Moonbase Alpha", there shall be a slingshot effect in 20 years'time. Then the moon shall be back over Terra Alpha thus the new Alpha children could go back to Alpha. I can imagine : John married Helena and Tony married Maya. The ancien actors get older and they have plenty of twenty-year-old children and more who were born on Terra Alpha. Their parents have grown up on Earth so the children want to find back such a mysterious planet. Their goal is rather different than the first generation. When the moon comes back, the new generation go onto Alpha for a new space odyssey. I figure new characters including a new metamorph (Tony's son). The base is different, mayble smaller or larger than we know. They discover new alien entities in the corridors etc... And their new mission is to research their roots on the mother-planet Earth. Then you can write some scripts for 23 new episodes with new planets, new civilisations, new phenomenas etc... For Star Trek, I know Paramount studies fans'specs in order to find new concepts. Why wouldn't ITC do the same? F-9000 |

Sounds good on paper, Fred, but I see a few problems. For one thing, Martin Landau and Barbara Bain are divorced. I doubt there is enough money in Hollywood to get them to work together again. The actor who played Tony died last year, and Catherine Schell has stated publically that she is retired from acting for good. I bet Martin Landau would be willing to do a cameo for the first episode, but you'd have to figure out how to have him show up in just one episode and then get rid of him (perhaps he dies or his appearence takes the form of an "old" recording). So if Space:2049 is what you want, I must say that it doesn't seem even remotely likely. |

Yes, you're rigjt but i often watch old landau in other pictures for television. I think we could see an old widower commander just in the pilot : he could give clues to his sons and daughters before he dies. helena may just appear in a photograph or in a flash-back, like in "devil'smoon" in someone's recordings. Then, Hollywood may choose easily new actor for Tony or koenig's children. What's the matter, dear validus? I chose space 2049 to show the difference of time. Message from moonbase Alpha seems to take place about 2020 (however, the dorcons is a 2006 episode). F-9000 |

I think Message From Moonbase Alpha is a terrible opinion to end the series. What were the Alphans doing for the last 15 years to allow their life support systems to deteriorate beyond repair?!? Then again, if the shenanigans and silliness of year 2 had just continued, then it doesn't surprise me that may have happened. To be forced off the Moon because they were too lazy to keep up and make improvements to their environment?!? What an insult to the spirit of the original show and, really, humanity in general. I would correct this "mistake" as follows: On the way to Terra Alpha, half of the Eagles have landed, the other half are still enroute. Suddenly, the planet EXPLODES killing the half that have landed and forcing the other half on their way to turn back and return to the moon. The odyssey continues.... In this scenario, it leaves open the opportunity for members of the old cast to return and introduce some new cast members... |

No offense to Johnny Byrne, but I didn't like the Terra Alpha idea. Were there to be a new series or a remake, I'd have the moon out in space at the beginning. Jack The Fool |

Terra alpha: why not. But I don't see why children would decide to go in space. They'd risk to lose them. |

To get away from their parents of course! |

I wans't too hot for the "Terra Alpha" idea either. I guess it was done to bookend the series just in case a film or new tv show is never made. | ||

Yes, Borg Ducky, it is depressing.....if you are a y1 fan. However, for y2, it is quite an appropriate ending. Given the preoccupation with space hookers and beer making in the kiddy version of the show, is it a wonder the life support system just deteriorated? I think not.... However, the beauty of never having a "real" ending to the series is that there is hope for endless scenarios and possibilities of the fate of the Alphans... Check out this link as an alternative... http://members.shaw.ca/duke-t/IE5/MainFrame2099.htm It is Space:2099...Yes, it is 100 years later and the moon is still drifting through space...The stories closely match the spirit and original premise of Space:1999. |

How do I apply? Can I play Captain? I find this most appealing...............I dont have to talk in technobabble!?! And why is one of the crew members Angel? |

I'm all for having a totally new cast. We can use the colonization mentioned in "Message from Moonbase Alpha" as way to introduce an intelligent and benevolent alien species that settled with them, where some of them are open to joining the Alphans' decendants back on the moonbase. It would be interesting to see how many of the original cast they can get back. The pilot episode could serve as a "passing of the torch" where they ultimately participate in preparing the new Alphans. My preferences: - Bring back Main Mission concept - New Alphans a decade younger (more 20's and 30's, rather than 30's and 40's) - Strong female commander (read and learned a lot from the original Alphan colonists...but all this was in theory) - A Chief doctor in the mold of Mathias (someone who seems to care greatly about the patients) - Alien scienist (alien's race is advanced, and knows of ways to rejuvenate Moonbase Alpha and redesigns the eagles) - Rest of the cast are either main mission operatives or reps from other significant sections of the base Episode two would add two other cast members, as an earth space ship crash lands on Alpha. These are people on the first post-Alpha disaster deep space mission launched in 2004 that found their way in a space warp. The result is a culture difference of sorts. Two people from an era among the descendants of that same era. |

I agree. With apologies to Zeinia Merton, lovely as always, and Byrne, it just seemed somehow too pat an ending. After surviving God knows how many psycho aliens, space warps, near-collisions, wars, et al, they are now jumping ship when the Life Support systems haven't given out yet. Sure, their resources are limited on an airless rock, but they have managed before, and this just seemed a near cop out. For a Y3, if ever it were done, bring back a refitted Main Mission, as many of the original cast in cameos and walk ons as agree for the sake of continuity, and above all, with both music (Y1 please!!!) and directing, recreate as much as possible the mood of Y1. The subdued but very real sense of mystery and awe at the universe. |

Sounds more like Star Trek than Space:1999. OK...so maybe it is like S99 Y2... |
