Hi all, I just wanted to take a moment to welcome you to the Gaybase Alpha section of the Space:1999 Net Forums. Thank you to Marcy and Martin for providing us with this bulletin board for Space:1999 fans to interact. Some of you may be wondering what Gaybase Alpha is all about, so I have set up this FAQ to answer as many questions as possible. FAQ for Gaybase Alpha 1) What is Gaybase Alpha (GBA)? Gaybase Alpha is mainly a mailing list (hosted by Yahoo!Groups) where gay and bisexual fans of Space:1999 can interact in a friendly fashion to discuss Space:1999, sci-fi in general and gay issues. Gay-friendly straight people are welcome to join, too. 2) How do I join? You can easily join by clicking this link: Join Gaybase Alpha 3) Are there any fees, dues, etc? No, Gaybase Alpha is completely free to the end-user. There are no dues, fees, etc. to join. You may leave at any time with no obligation whatsoever. 4) What topics are discussed? Are members or topics moderated? We discuss almost anything with the prime focus being Space:1999. No topics are moderated, but if we get wildly off course, we try to get back on course ASAP. In general, members are not moderated, except for new members. This is only due to the increasing incidence of "porn spam" that Yahoo!Groups is experiencing. To help prevent this, new members are moderated until it is determined that they are responsible members of the list. 5) Is there a minimum age to join? Yes. Though Gaybase Alpha is not a "porn" list, adult topics and issues are sometimes discussed and as such all potential members need to be at least 18 years of age to join. Since Space:1999 hasn't been seen on broadcast TV in a decade or so, most members are easily over the minimum age. 6) How many gay Space:1999 fans can there be? Well, quite a few! We currently have about 300 members on the mailing list -- of course, not all are gay and not all are active list members (and some may be multiple email addresses for one member), but we've also had LOTS of members leave -- gay Space:1999 fandom is a reasonable size indeed! 7) What is the attraction of gay people (mainly males) to Space:1999? Good question and one we have yet to find an answer to! It seems many are attracted to the stylized sets of Moonbase Alpha -- but it may also be due to some inner parallel of a lost and isolated Moon floating in a strange Universe to a gay person floating in a straight world. 8) Is there a Web page with more info?
