Martin: Are the pictures of the week 'on set' photos or were they taken from the 35mm film by ITC and made into photos? (I know we had a discussion about on set photography in the past) |

Most are on-set photographs taken by a stills photographer for publicity. The stills photographer was on set every day of shooting. Some are deliberately posed, others are probably rehearsals or taken at the end of the film shot. Almost all the publicity shots of the time were on-set stills. It's only recently we've been able to easily use frame blow ups and screen captures. |

Thanks for the info. Did you ever find out who the mystery lady was from a few weeks back??? |

Ooops! Where did you get the picture? My first guess would have been that she was a "created" Alphan. You know, head of someone (actress, whoever) and put it on body of Alphan. There is a lot of software out there with which you can doctor pictures like that and I've had some fun dabbling in it myself...Some of those pictures are actually quite good (yeah, like the way the Globe and The National Inquirer and trash like that create pictures...) |

It's a legit picture from ITC. It was somebody who was on the set in year 1. Opps, sorry about the bad links. I recently updated every page on the site. Some images were moved or renamed, but obviously I haven't uploaded them... Martin |

Hi, I'm new to the forum and just spotted this thread. My question is, if a stills photographer was on set every day, what would have happened to the original negatives? Could it be possible they're still in existance stored in some archive somewhere? What would the normal procedure have been for publicity photography on TV shows? After all if they are still available there is the potential for a lot of unseen pictures to be bought out into public domain. Maybe this is something that people with the right connections could chase up. Martin |

negatives to many of those photographs might be in private collectors' hands... | ||

Some negs are in private hands. Almost all were either given away or thrown out by ITC, many years ago. Granada have very few pictures left. ITC assumed, like most of their properties, Space 1999 would only last a few repeats in the late 1970s. Noone knew that video, or DVD, would ever become popular. Noone thought that people would still be interested in the series decades after it was made. Noone thought there was any need to keep negatives. Martin |

But it could have been so much worse! Imagine if they took a BBC attitude.... and threw out loads of episodes.... |
