The International Episode Lists raised a lot of memories from many correspondents. Several have recalled how the series changed timeslots, or station.

Here's a couple of extracts from emails I received which I found particularly interesting.

This from Kevin Birnie:

I think there's a couple of errors on the UK LWT one.Maybe you'll entertain a couple of personal
memories of the series as I put my case.

1. Running order. Early on I used to miss the first 20 minutes to watch Doctor Who
on the Beeb. But by the "4th" Episode- War Games, I was totally hooked and came over
to ITV. The first full episode I saw was Deaths other Dominion, thinking how adult
the show was with it's rotting corpse. This was followed by a really horrific
monster and more corpses in Dragons Domain, cannibalism in Mission of the Darians,
and that nasty scene with the security guard being hit by the laser in Alpha Child.
It all calmed down from Voyagers Return onwards and I remember thinking maybe they'd
had some complaints!

2. Earthbound,The Full Circle. It was NEVER on friday in the London area at that
time. It had replaced Doctor Who as the show that we had be back from the shops in
time to watch. I'd remember that.

3.Series 2 running order. After being a bit dubious about the changes I'd seen in
Metamorph and The Exiles there followed 2 crap (i.e Eagle-less) episodes-Journey to
Where and One Moment of Stupidity (Still hate that one!). By this time I was a bit
disillusioned with the new series I can tell u. Then I went to my Aunt's and saw it
in Colour for the first time which restored my faith. This episode was definitely
New Adam, New Eve. Later on that same day I watched Doctor Who "Hand of Fear episode
one on Beeb 1.
And according to all my sources. this was on 2/10/76.

Also a clarification on original US broadcasts:
WGN Channel 9 Chicago ran year one on Tuesdays at 7PM for the first few weeks and
later ran two episodes a week Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 PM- they went through them
rather quickly. I don't get WGN but had friends who did at the time via cable it is
a super station and at tat point was available on most cable systems in the midwest.
Year 2 ran on Sunday early evening as you have noted.

At the time I had a very big aerial and could get 3 statiosn that ran the sereis for
year 1-
WRAU 19 Peoria IL- began running it Thursdays at 7PM- but stopped by mid December-
they ran episodes as filler on weekends after that point they did not run year 2
WHBF 4 Rock Island IL began running year 1 Tuesdays at 7PM and oved to Staurdays at
10PM about the sam time as 19 took it off the air.
WAND 17 Decatur IL- ran both seasons Saturday at 10:30 PM- although at some point
their tower went down in an ice storm and they went to a back up  using a wekaer
transmitter - they did not return to full power until fall of 1979
WOI 5 Ames IA ran both seasons on saturday afternoons, I think they changed the
times since a friend of mine had a video of Tony Anholt and Nick Tate on the set
saying to watch the show on WOI and did several different takes with different
times. This station in the 1970s had a scifi rerun block on sat afternoons featuring
reruns of Star Trek, Irwin allen shows and Space 1999.

Martin, are trying to make a record of every station that Space:1999 was transmitted? 'cause I could give some info on the New Orleans area, I watched it when it was first transmitted here in '75 and all reruns...

I wasn't intending to do every US station, - unlike the UK or European channels, there's too many.
I just tried to do a sample to show how the series was treated- from those that put it on prime time, to those who used it as filler or dropped it completely. But as it obviously stirs a lot of memories for people, so I may extend the coverage! Let me know channel, city, day and timeslot (plus major changes), and I'll add it to the US lists.

Hi Martin,

From what I can tell, your CBC Canada list is solely the French broadcast dates. I lived in Woodstock, Ontario at the time Year One is shown and solely from memory I believe it was usually shown somewhere around 4:00 pm in the afternoon on Saturday's.

I think the first episode Breakaway was broadcast in late September or late October 1975 on CBC in english Canada and am positive I saw the show exactly in production order. I seem to recall a break before Matter of Life and Death was shown and given the way the episoded went with everyone dieing I actually thought that maybe the show didn't make it past 2 episodes and was so incredibly relieved when Helena was asked to "see what you want to see" by Lee Russell. One memory that I'm having difficulty reconciling is that I recall seeing Another Time, Another Place sometime near the upcoming Christmas holiday as I remember really enjoying the episode and then went with family/friends carolling later that evening. However, if the show was on every week ATAP should have been on in late November or first week of December as opposed to just before Christmas.

Anyways, that's all I can recall right now. Hopefully I can firm up some of those actual dates in the near future.

Space:1999 first aired in New Orleans the first year it was released "worldwide". I remember my dad telling me about 'cause he was the TV editor for the Time Picayune back then and remember reading and seeing the TV Guide article. It aired on WDSU, Channel 6, in New Orleans. WDSU transmitted both seasons and aired each episode twice on Saturdays @ 3pm. They did not interupt Network porgramming(WDSU is an NBC affiliate). WGNO-TV(which is the station I work for now)aired the program AFTER WDSU's first run. I cannot remember if WGNO acquired the program right after DSU's initial run or a year after, but it was pretty close, and WGNO doesn't have those records anymore to verify specific dates. Though, I do remeber that they aired it Monday thru Friday, first at 10pm(I hated that time 'cause I was too young at the time to stay up to 11pm Monday thru Thursday)and then after that run they began airing ti at 6:00pm. After a year or two, Space:1999 disappeared from the New Orleans airwaves.

Hello Guys. I've been helping Martin compile the ITV listings for the International Guide. What started as something of minor interest has grown into a major research project with me now attempting to chart the course of events on every ITV regional station.

We all saw the same show different depending on where we lived at the time. From the various caption cards to random running orders. Some saw the episodes edited, while others had the benefit of seeing them full. The episode synopsis in the TV Times varied from region to region, some containing laughable errors.

Kevin. I note what you say about the errors in the running order, some of which were typos that have now been corrected. You're right, Space was only ever on Saturday, apart from some of year two's repeats. The year one order was the same for all ITV regions the first time with very minor differences from area to area. "Brian the Brain" was the fifth episode of year two shown on LWT, and was the first to have the year two break bumpers. I have all the TV Times clippings from this run and a complete set of audio recordings, and even......some video recordings, so anything you want to know regarding London, Anglia or ATV, please ask and I will delve into the homemade archive and try to help.

Your individual thoughts and memories are invaluable, please share them here.

Just to add that the catacombs now has calendars from 1975 onwards for UK broadcasts, thanks to Ros

UK broadcast calendars

In addition to episode lists by region ATV, LWT, Anglia, HTV.

And the Episode Dates page now shows the world and UK premieres of episodes (at least where dates are known!). Usually ATV was first, but Anglia scored the premiere of Space Brain, France showed Testament Of Arkadia before anyone in Britain saw it, and French Canadians saw a number of late Year 2 episodes first.

I believe that Yorkshire TV was first for a number of episodes, but I have no dates or further information- perhaps some readers can help?

Hello All.

I have now scanned all of my old TV Times clippings for Space: 1999 in the LWT area. A good friend of mine has electronically cleaned them up as the originals have been languishing in an old album for years, slowly decaying and going yellow. I am very pleased with the results although some that had sellotape joins are beyond recovery. Martin informs me that he will eventually post them for all to see in 'The Catacombs'. I hope they spark a few happy memories for some of our UK friends, and interest for our international readers too.

Enjoy!

Ros
