SFX magazine has a special "Best Of British" magazine out, a listing of the "top 50 British telefantasy shows".

Space 1999 comes in at 11. It beats Thunderbirds (at 13) and UFO (at 15) , but it also comes in at number 8 in the worst list...

No surprises in the top 10 really, apart from Robin Of Sherwood (which I enjoyed at the time, but why's it here?) and one 90s show I've never heard of. And no surprises about the top show.

The rest of the list below 10 is the usual mix of low budget kiddie stuff, dodgy adventure, sad comedy and mildly fantasy drama (Edge Of Darkness is 12).

The Space 1999 write up is pretty negative (science, po-faced actors, silliness), but they liked the Eagles. Well, that's alright then. There's also a Gerry Anderson interview which briefly covers 1999.

I really wish that Space: 1999 had made the top 10 list as well as people will only notice it on the worst list when in fact there is a huge group of us who love the show.

I have high hopes that the new Anniversary DVD set for Season One will really open a lot of people's eyes as to the incredible quality of the show and it will continue to gain new fans well past the time that we devoted fans could have ever imagined in our wildest dreams.

Space: 1999 .... #1 on my list no matter what the critics say smile.gif
