What do you think about couples: Koenig and Helena, Sandra and Paul, Tony and Maya, and the others. We can note that nearly alphans are married. They were probably in love when the moon was still around the earth. Or they havn't any choice!!! |

I always had a hard time with the "romantic" relationship between Dr Russell and Commander Koenig for the simple reason that the actors playing them were married in real life- and I was never able to separate the real relationship from the fictional one. As I stated in another thread- personally I can't see what Martin Landau ever saw in Barbara Bain. . . . As for Tony and Maya- well..... The relationship between those two was just too shallow for me to take any real interest in. They always reminded me of two kids in high school, and as for Tony.....well, what man wouldn't fall for a woman with a girlish personality and the ability to change her shape at will? Sondra always struck me as being very sweet and vulberable, almost like Audry Hepburn. I'd have liked to have seen her character developed more. Same with Paul.... I've often felt that Alan and Maya would've made a better pairing. |

If I had been asked at the time I would've said Alan and Maya, as long as I was Maya! Sadly, I was only a 13 year old schoolgirl at the time. Seriously I agree with Validus that Alan and Maya would've made a better couple, character wise. I think that Paul was a bit too bossy for Sandra. Is it Sandra or Sondra? I know that Paul called her Sondra but I thought he was just being posh. I think that Validus' comment about Martin and Barbara is a classic |

It's Sandra in French... I think Maya is too serious and Alan can't be in love with only one woman. |

Thanks Cindy! Apologies to French speaking people of the world. Does anyone know the Smilie for being extremely embarrased? I could do with it right now!

True, but Maya can change into many different women so it might work after all... |

As I stated in another thread- personally I can't see what Martin Landau ever saw in Barbara Bain. . . . Man, I still think Barbara Bain gets a totally bad rap. In her "heyday," Barbara Bain was an incredibly attractive woman--and during the run of Mission Impossible it would be fair to say she was one of television's top female personalities. Her work in Mission Impossible earned her three consecutive Emmys--a first in the industry--and she was universally considered to be a very accomplished actress. She has gone on in recent years to reclaim her reputation after essentially disappearing from the public eye after Space: 1999--mostly in supporting roles in well-received movies like Panic and American Gun, but has also distinguished herself as an accomplished stage actress as well as director. If you've never seen Barbara in roles other than Space:1999, you really should look around for some of her earlier work. There is, of course, the three season run of Mission Impossible, but she also had a number of fine performances in TV films in the early 70s...most notably "Goodnight, My Love" and "A Summer Without Boys." I've always found Barbara to have a certain sense of style and grace that is absent from most actresses in this day and age. She sort of reminds me of Lauren Bacall, but softer and more feminine. |

What was the ratio of men to women on the moonbase?
| Validus 27 Feb 2003 07:22:59 |
If the show is any indication it seems about even....maybe 60/40 with men making the larger segment.
| Cindy 27 Feb 2003 22:01:12 |
60/40... So women have more choice!!! |
||
| Eagle One 27 Feb 2003 23:59:08 |
Uh...not really. Out of that 60 percent of men, probably at least half are total geeks. So that makes it 30 percent men, 30 percent man-geeks and 40 percent women. |

No Girl-Geeks? Hmmm? |
||
| Eagle One 01 Mar 2003 15:23:08 |
ok 30 percent men to 30 percent women...1 to 1 ratio... |

They would organize a ball for single men and single women.

I think someone would have had to organized many such social event's...In fact a counsel working on the psycological issues would have had a full time job. Their would probably have been some really silly things like moon rock throwing contests etc too... |

Was Tony and Maya's relationship shallow???? If it was I'm in trouble, my husband and I kid around the same way. We've been together 16 years married almost 10. Just the other day I told my husband to "Shut up" as I left the room, minutes later I returned to hear him muttering under his breathe " I can't believe my WIFE told me to SHUT UP" of course I just giggled, what followed this little banter was wonderful We are always kidding around, but maybe I'm shallow too, but I don't think my hubby and I could do serious. As for Koenig and Russell they were very serious about the craft, but I was glad to see their relationship lighten a little in the second year. I think I like the second year better more fun with the characters and their relationships. Got to get the hang of this clickale smilies How come they won't go where I want them? Can I use multiple smiles or just one at the end? I'm just rambling now. Got to go walk the dogs thru the snow and slush bye!!!! |

I think your close about Tony and Maya's relationship it was shallow but with in the context of the show and all it's serious issues both might not have wanted something serious. So shallow for year two makes sense. If there was a year 3 and 4 I think the relationship would either grow or die, don't see how it would have stayed the same as year two. I think there is an episode in the change in Koenig & Russell's changed relationship...something about having to learn to be less serious otherwise they would have went insane. Nice points and welcome to the board! |

I don't know, I just could never understand why Maya put up with Tony. I always felt sorry for actor Tony Anholt for having to spout such badly written dialogue. I think the very worst line in the entire series might've been when Tony took Maya in his arms and actually said "Psycon is my favorite planet" (The Beta Cloud). ......sigh...... |

Maybe he didn't, did they have Bloopers back then. Some of the banter was fun but other stuff was so corny, it leaves you saying to yourself WHAT were they thinking even for the 70's. |
