Martin: Can you tell us a bit about the original format for Space:1999...in reference to the following: 1) in the Catacombs coverage for Matter of Life & Death, you mention the script was revised because it was written for an earlier version of Space:1999. 2) it's my understanding that the episodes were going to be linked instead of independent like they were made. Any insights? |

Several early scripts were written for an early format of the show (among the differences, Eagles were called MTUs, Alan Carter was called Captain Catini, there was another recurring character, the French technician Murneau). It's not just name changes- the characters and stories are often very different. Think of it as "year 0" to year 1, as year 1 was to year 2. They are that different. These scripts include George Bellak's The Void Ahead (rewritten by Christopher Penfold as Breakaway), Art Wallace's The Siren Planet (rewritten by Johnny Byrne as matter Of Life and Death) and David Weir's Black Sun (rewritten by Christopher Penfold). All the original scripts, and shooting scripts, were stand-alone stories (Terra Nova was never intended to be Meta). Martin |

Thanks Martin. So they never intended to wrap up the story at the end of Breakaway when Koenig says "There, yes maybe there" (or similar)?? Or was there more to the Breakaway script than was filmed? |

Bellak's Void Ahead script ends with almost exactly the same line (although not said by Koenig... ) So, no, they never intended to explain what happens on Meta. Martin |
