I like this episode thoroughly. It's one of my favorites from Series 2, and I
especially like how the music fits into this one and the exciting effects
scenes, the little human moment of Bill Fraser taking Maya and Helena
closer to the planet and risking his own life, etc.

I agree with David about the problem with Helena and Maya basically
abandoning Alpha and their responsibilities, though. That's why a
character like Paul Morrow is such a good character to have, so you can
leave someone in charge but let the stars go off and play. I think this is
what Gene Rodenberry planned for ST:TNG with Picard and Riker. Riker
would take off to the planets and Picard would stay on the ship.
Because Patrick Stewart is such a compelling actor, however, it didn't
work out that way.

The only thing I have a problem with in The Immunity Syndrome is the
voice characterization of the actor playing the entity. It's not compelling.
Someone noted in recent months that these lines sounded silly (lines like
"I am I..."). I think this is actually a very interesting way to have an alien
speak (the words). Subtelty and nuance come later in the English
language, and very often if you ask someone to give a literal translation
of what they just said you will find they can't, though both of you knew
what it meant. We speak in remembered phrases in part, rather than just
individual words. The voice characterization was way off in my opinion.
It didn't hurt the episode for me all that much, though. I enjoyed the roller
coaster ride, and I LOVE Alibe's pretty bad performance in this. It's
almost unintentionally comedic.

Subject: Space1999: Year 1 vs Year 2

As everyone probably knows, I am one of the year 1 fanatics
who has all too recently posted year 2 jokes. The important
thing I want to convey at this time is, that is all they were, Jokes.

I hope it is not the case that people are considering unsubsrcibing
for reasons that they like season 2, and are hurt by these posts.
That is not my intent at all, and I really hope that this is not the
case.
Everyone, regardless of which season you like, should feel free to
be a member of this list, And By All Means, post your beliefs and
ideas to the list in spite of what anything else thinks about what
you like about the show. Counter my joke with a joke about season
1 for God's sake, just don't unsubscribe or stay only in lurker mode.
Don't be afraid to post, but by the same token don't say something that
could be considered a personal attack on someone. This has all
been said before I know, but just maybe someone needs to here
it from a member who likes to joke around a bit.

Season 1 Rules !!!

Hi Rodney!, All !

On my LP, the song #2, on side #1 (breakaway) should be the music heard
when the battle between Steiner and Nordstrom happens on the lunar
surface at the beggining of the "BREAKAWAY" episode, instead of that,
it's
the song playing while the medical team is running on the lunar surface
(again) in "THE MISSING LINK" episode.

Anybody got an answer ?

Does anyone know whatever happened to our cd project from not even
a year ago?

Is there any way to combine the effort and producing a CD, just incase
the people at SuperCollector are unable to produce the projected release
later in the year.

I have the taped copy of the RCA version from Shane Johnson, and the
Production Master from Greg Stone (both of which are a must for all
season 1 fan music lovers). But nothing can beat the sound reproduction
from a CD, especially if we can get the masters like we've so wanted to
in the past.

For those who don't recall the "CD ME" project, or are new, I've included
the information under my post.

Take Care

Subject: Soundtrack CD STATUS !!

TOTAL AMOUNT REACHED: $1,697 of $1500 !!!! YAHOOO!!!

Dear Fans,

Sorry for the late, but I sill have few free time.
Now are months since we started to collect people that want to
have their own CD with soundtrack of S1999.
I want to explain exactly the status of the art.
For those that already know the project skip to LAST NEWS section
later.

FAQ 1: HOW MUCH THIS CD WILL COST EXACTLY

Alexandro Ojeda MARZ@Jax-inter.net, told that starting with $1500.
00 he can produce CDs. They will cost just for us $5 each, probably
also with Artwork.
This means that we have to order at least 300 CD. Obviously we
will need to add some extra money for shipping them in the world.
This help solved the problem on HOW TO MAKE THE CD.
To be exact the cost will be $5 plus shipping.
Shipping will be $3 in the U.S. via Priority Mail (three days),
while it will be about $7 to the Europe.
Note that the CD will be printed in USA and so they will be
shipped from USA.

FAQ 2: WHAT MUSIC WILL BE PRESENT

Currently the list will be given from the original RCA LP contents.
The masters are ready. However I would add also the II season
themes,
but I don't know if they exists as original master.
So the current list is:

            Space:1999 Theme
            Breakaway
            Wargames
            Death's Other Dominion
            Another Time another Place
            Dragon's Domain
            Collision Course
            Mission of the Darians
            Black Sun
            End of Eternity
            Matter of Life and Death
            Earthbound
            The Last Sunset

FAQ 3: WHAT WILL BE THE MASTER

Well, I and you, want to have the better quality on the CD. So
the masters should be the original one. We have still to get in
contact with the American Federation of Musicians in order to
have
their permission to print the CD, and to have the access to the
original masters. I want to stress that I want that the CD will
BE
PERFECTLY LEGAL.
If we should have problems in finding the Original Masters, we
can use a record from the original LP, but I want to avoid it.

FAQ 4: DO WE HAVE TO PAY FOR THE RIGHTS ?

It seems no. It seems that if we make the CD in limited edition
for NON PROFIT REASONS we don't have to pay rights (at least in
USA).
This method has been used successfully from SCSE (an Australian
label for Collectors Only).

FAQ 5: HOW TO BE INSERTED IN THE OWNERS LIST

Now the orders are collected by money offers.
Remind: One CD $5.
With $20 you will pay the cost of 4 CD (the shipping expenses
should be still added, but with $3 we can ship
more than one CD in the same package);

To be inserted SEND A MESSAGE with subject "CD ADD ME" to: Roberto
Coli - mc7741@mclink.it with your E-MAIL address.

PLEASE, DON'T SEND your request in the SPACE:1999 mailing list,
in order to avoid annoying mail traffic.

FAQ 6: IF I AM ON THE LIST I MUST BUY THE CD ?

No, this is still a preliminary list. Also if we have reached
$1500,
WE NEED STILL TO HAVE ACCESS TO THE MASTER. Only after it, I'll
get the confirmations from all the people present in the list,
and then we will start to send money directly to the CD producer.

* * * * LAST NEWS * * * ** * * * LAST NEWS * * * *

HEY GANG WE HAVE REACHED our first goal !!!!
We have enough money to print the CD!!!
But still this is not enough. WE NEED THE MASTERS!!

I contacted a friend in S.I.A.E. in Italy, (the equivalent
of the A.F.M) and he explained me how to obtain the masters...
It seems that since RCA Victor printed the original first LP,
RCA is THE OWNER OF THE RIGHTS AND MASTERS.
Nobody will tell if he has the WHOLE RIGHTS on all Gray's music
used in the series, only contacting the Barry Gray legal family
administrator we could know.
For now, he explained, we have to be ENOUGH REPRESENTATIVE to
contact RCA Victor, and ask for a private/non profit copy of the
masters (e.g. FAXes, Letters, Phone calls....)

This will requires still, time. DON'T HESITATE TO GIVE ANY HELP!
YOU ARE IN U.S. and if you live in the same city of a RCA Victor
office jumping on the place and personally asking will help us.

STOP filling up this list with this voting people been doing on the
list for the former or now thing.its not fair for these people to
fill up this list with a bunch of votes.mail thats only a few
phrases long not worth it. i suggest they e-mail the vote privatly
not mail votes to this list.send it to the person privatly to the
one whos running the vote.i dont like downloading tons of mail thats
just a vote. whats the deal. this is only what i think should be done
not ment to be mean but its just wrong to flame this list with that
stuff.

I have The Making of SPACE:1999,
Edge of the Infinite, and Mind Breaks of Space,
but I promised to donate them to the benefit auction that
will take place at the 1999 convention in Oregon. The folks
I promised them to even brought up the idea of having
attending stars autograph them before bidding. So, if
you plan to attend....

Subject: Space1999: A Friendly Reminder

You guys. Please think. There is no sense whatsoever in filling
everybody's mailbox up with this stuff you're sending today.

Someone please volunteer to collect votes on changing back to the old
way of message response or not, and then ask people to send the
responses to you alone and not the list. If nobody's tracking it there's no
point in sending it and you are just filling up everyone's mailboxes.

Also, if you are interested in getting a CD of the music, please respond to
the person who made the offer. There is absolutely NO need to send me
and 250 or so other people these kinds of messages.

Again, it is not appropriate or courteous to send private, individual
responses to the entire list.

Thank you,

Robert

If any of you have both OL"Man Who Wasn't Born"
and the "Immunity Syndrome", watch both and you'll
see that it's the same actor (only a little younger in
the Outer Limits); since he played a bit part in the 1999
episode, its possible he didn't get a credit.
