John Koenig: "If I could manipulate computer, Simmonds, it would shout

David Kano: "AAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Light panels are what I first thought, but if you look at it
as a set, from above, it's very possible they simply
back light the panels with diffused movie lights, changing
colors by changing gels. I've heard on the list people
refer to the large main mission/corridors being a problem
due to setup time. Having to reset lights everytime could
be tedious. Just a guess.

Interesting

In the earliest of episodes, the array of lights atop the commpost were
inconsistently
list, when seen at an angle from any of the four faces, indicating a sole
centralized
bulb for all four panels. Later, in season 1 and even 2, the lighting is
consistent
at any angle. The wall panels were always consistently lit from any
camera angle, making me think if it were banks of fluorescent lights,
they had to be surrounded
by large amounts of reflecting material (tin foil like) to make the
lighting appear
congruent in the panel.

Take Care All

Hi Ian,

I'm not sure if you're familiar with my 1999 IRC information site,
http://www.lonet.ca/res/jward/ward/irc.htm

But it clearly says that the channel is active at 8:30pm Eastern Standard
Time.
I know that this would be considerably late for you as it would be 2:30am
GMT.
I have posted on the list quite a few times about e-mailing someone in your
time zone to go on with you and chat. That way someone will be on with you.

I am a musician recording an album and right now it's difficult for me to
be at the channel everyday, but I don't see how that can stop anyone from
going on the channel.

I know there are quite a few on this list in your time zone. I don't know
if you know them or not, but if in doubt I guess Marcy might be able to
tell you.

I hope this helps you out some. If all fails, let me know of a good time
for you (that isn't too late EST time--I'm 6 hours behind you) and I'll try
my best to go on the channel with you.

P.S. I haven't seen those names mentioned anywhere so I guess they're free
to use.

I love this place, I have made copies of tapes for people all over this
List over the last three point five years. How can so many happy people
be so unhappy? Let this go.

Robert, come home. (There I said it and I know you got this, I cc'd both

Come home.

Marcy. Thanks for the List. Guess I'm just an old fart who uses telnet,

While I agree with a lot of what Robert said, I do have one small correction:

>the way you are treating her is absolutely disgusting and appalling.

No, actually this is our list and not mine. I will not dictate
content/membership. There are several of you that behave like total oafs
and would not be let into my home. There is one of you who has the honor of
being the first 1999 list member ever to be included in my filters so that
I will never again see email from you. In fact you have the honor of being
the first person ever, aside from spammers/spam domains.

This is all I have to say on this issue. We can try and get back to talking
about 1999 though I don't think this list will ever be the same.

I do want to thank the many wonderful people I've met over the past year.
The reason I was willing to administrate this list was for you. So here are
the people I want to thank:

Nick Sayer - for starting the list and letting me meet all these great people
Marshall Poindexter & David Welle - for volunteering to help with the
joyless work of administering this list
Phill Wright - for his encouragement and trememdous contribution to the
Cyber Museum
Roberto Baldassari - for all his help with the Cyber Museum
Robert Ruiz - for all his help in ways to numerous to mention, and for
being the only person to write me a positive word about the CM when it was
first started
Johnny Byrne - for continuing support of 1999 and its fans so many years
after the show has been off the air
Ellen Lindow - for her list contributions and wonderful fan fiction
Jeanette Quimby - for her list contributions, we certainly are missing her now
Philippa Sidle - more wonderful fan fiction
Eddie Lotter - for all his work on the archive and the FAQ
John Boomershine - for list posts that always made me laugh
George Lee - for the Online Alpha Profile List
Claudia Coles - for thoughtful list posts
Pat Sokol - for thoughtful list posts and all her work with Marshall on the
revised FAQ
Daphne Vezina - for thoughtful list posts and legal advice
John Fleming - for all the Moonbase items and his Cold North Site for
people to post all the things I was too slow to deal with
Mike Prendergast - for trusting me with his valued 1999 photos so they
could be seen by everybody at the CM
Ermes Ventisetti - for thoughtful list posts and a voice of faith
Mark Eidemiller - more thoughtful list posts and faith
Pat Embury - more thoughtful list posts and also trusting me with her 1999
items for the CM
Terry Bowers - for contributions to 1999 fandom beyond what most of us will
ever do
Chris Potter - for organizing the round the world trip of The Making of
Space: 1999 giving many the chance to see it who never would have
otherwise, and for his contributions to the CM
Zoltan Motyan - for thoughtful list posts and answering my numerous
questions about Hungary (where my family is from) for me
Allen Retodo - for sharing his model project with all of us
Ryan Case - for all the sounds he digitized for the CM
Maurizio Majelli - for his wonderful work on HDR, even if it is a PC-only game
Any lurkers/posters from the past I may have forgotten for making 1999 on
the net so enjoyable until now.

Gosh there's a lot of great people involved here. I don't know how the
current situation came about. It seems we've let a bunch of ill-mannered
oafs change the whole character of this list, despite having such a great
bunch of folks.

Marcy

Hi all of you, Hi Marcy,

I swore to myself that I would not get involved in yet another list crisis.
Until now.

Personnaly, I have never deleted so many negative posts since I have first
subscribed to the original mailing list two years ago. I am sick and tired
of hearing people whining and complaining and calling names. Or worse,
misunderstanding one another's motives. I know this is not a Polyanna
mailing list, but could we PLEASE be at least civilized and act like the
adults we are?

Remember, this is MOONBASE ALPHA ONLINE, folks! We are supposed to talk and
share ideas above our common love, that is a very special British tv show
from the '70's. I think that it is called Space: 1999. Not Bickering: 1997.

And now, do not, repeat, do not get me wrong here. I am not pointing at
anyone. What's the point anyway? While we cannot be on the same wavelenghts
all the time, we must at least try to keep focus and get back to business.=
 NOW.

Where did we go wrong? In letting this situation go too far, probably. But
let us bury the hatchets and set aside our differences. For this list's
sakes. And ours.

Robert, I understand your position but your leaving will be our loss as well
as yours. I am truly sorry. I hope you can reconsider. In any case, I thank
you for what you did and for your wonderful site.

Marcy, you are one truly great individual. I was not very active when the
Cyber Museum first came along but I do want to say from the bottom of my
heart: thank you. Hang on.

Love ya all.

There are 6 great images in the Fan Art Display by Tony Ritz.
They were done painstakingly with Windows Paint and are of some great
interior shots of Alpha.

Also I've included my "personal want list" of items that I'm looking for.
Check it out. Who knows, you might be able to help me. :)

Ok, I guess the bombs have stopped falling, back to lurk mode.

Okay, right. I made a few calculations, and got it 1 hour out. Shows you
how good my math is, huh?

Hmm, I know it is a problem. I'l see what I can do in that dept.

Thanks! I'll let you know. (I think I'll probably end up sticking it out
with the late nights, though. Huh! I'm a chronic insomniac most of the
time, so i'll just about be able to stay up!

Okay. Thanks a lot for your help. I'll see ifI can catch you on the

Subject: Space1999: The mailing list

Hello, Alphans.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed the air of tension
on the list lately. (I swore I wouldn't get involved, but I hate to see
such a great group of people suddenly fall out. I know. It's happened to
me, and it's not very nice.)
I think we all need to sit back for a while and consider why we
are here. Because we're here to discuss and enjoy each other's company
while we all discuss our favourite TV show, SPACE: 1999, and also to
discuss anything that is related, that YOU feel is relevant.
Sometimes I feel that perhaps we stray too far from that aim by
talking about what I have deemed "list politics", and voicing our
opinions about other people on the list unneccesarily. I will admit that
the change of list administration may have been difficult for some list
members, (I think it all ran pretty smoothly, Kudos to Marcy K for
all she's done)
But is that any reason to start bickering? NO!
We're all here to enjoy our love of Space 1999, and let's not
spoil it with unneccesary arguments?

I'm sure that we can all get along as long as we're tolerant of
those who decide to "go against the grain" and be hostile. My advice is
IGNORE THEM. All I ask is peace.

Perhaps we should take lessons from the past. Remember the friendly
banter about the moon, my (hilariously) failed screensaver idea, the
freindly chat, etc. So, let's try and forget the differences of the
past, and look to the future, (well, that's the idea of this list, isn't
it?)

May I also take this opprtunity to also thank a load of great people.

1) Marcy K. WOW! She has done so much for 1999 on the Internet that
it's almost too much to mention! Thankyou! (x1999!)

2)Robert Ashley Ruiz. He deserves all of the thanks you can give him.
He's been friend, helper, (cybrarian!) to all of us on the list,
including me. Thankyou so much!

3)Marshall Poindexter. Great work for the list also. He deserves as much
thanks as his colleague, David Welle, who both have helped so much to
make this list a good place.

4)David Welle, for everything I just said for Marshall Poindexter, and
you deserve it, too!

I'm sure there's a ton of great people that I've forgotten, Thankyou,
too, and thanks to everyone just for making this list what it is. GREAT.
