I won't tell. I'm reading it, too. I also have the "other" book that
discusses this series, The Making of Star Trek: The Motion Picture by Sasan
Sackett and Gene Roddenberry.

Got milk?

BTW, I'm downloading all those old S1999 articles from the cyber museum, too.

Details: This convention was just bought by Wizard Press (publishers of
Wizard comics magazine) as of Friday March 8, so dates or locations could
change. But in the past, the Chicago Comicon was held over the Fourth of July
weekend at the Rosemont Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois. The
convention has been huge in the past, perhaps 2nd only to the huge San Diego
convention IMO. It has the typical activities, dealer room, booths run by
almost all of the comic book publishers (from Marvel/DC/Image to the littlest
independent publishers), and lots of guests (last year I met Walter Koenig,
Harlan Ellison, and J. Michael Strazinski, who were there representing
Babylon 5). For more info, try calling the Rosemont Convention Center. Wizard
is likely to have info eventually, but I would imagine they would have
nothing announced just yet.

If anyone wants specifics on this convention, such as guest lists or whatever,
e-mail me privately and I'll make a point of getting details, guest lists,
etc together and send it to you as soon as it becomes available.

Was this a British version of the comics or something? The US Charlton Comics

<Just picked up a newly released BG Cylon Raider and a BG Colonial Viper for
about $12.00 ea. >

<I myself have the Galactica and the Cylon basestar on order. I heard they
are using new box art for the re-release of the BSG kits. There is also a
new BSG toy line by Trendmasters. I have the new viper toy and the cylon
raider.>

I also have the new Battlestar Galactica kit on order, for $12. A lot cheaper
than $150 for the old one at my local comic store. I'm expecting it to arrive
Wednesday.

<...But then again, those of us who do own [the original Eagle hobby kits]
might not agree. The Eagle is bad. It will take more work to fix, than to
build one from scratch. The Hawk is ok...>

No kidding? I had a few of the Eagles when I was 10, and they looked pretty
cool from a kid's point of view. Even if it was bad, I would still want one,
just for all the memories it would bring back!

<Where can one order these models? Who markets them? Are your ordering models
that are not BSG ?? (I'm confused!)>

I ordered it from a comic catalog called Westfield which is from a company
out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. Unfortunately, the catalog updates every
month, so unless these things are listed again, you are out of luck. I
promise I will announce any further hobby kit appearances I discover (and
Year 2 CDs), and I'm even willing to place orders for interested folks.

Subject: Space1999: Emergency Fundraiser for Hollywood Star

Dear Fans,

As some of you may know, Barbara Bain International - the officially
sanctioned Barbara Bain fan organization - has been raising funds in order to
subsidize the cost of a Star for Barbara on the famous "Hollywood Walk of
Fame."

Terry S. Bowers, President of BBI, has just received notification from the
Hollywood Chamber of Commerce that the fee for the Star has increased by an
additional $2,500.00 since we last applied for consideration of Barbara's
Star. The club has already raised in excess of $5,000.00 for this project
and we can't give up now! In response to this new challenge, we are
announcing a special fundraiser to raise the additional needed funds. These
funds must be raised within the next two months. For your donation to this
cause you will receive the following:

1. $25.00 or more donation: Specially prepared, professionally printed
"Barbara Bain Card" with her photograph and printed comments. These are the
same size and style of popular collectible sports cards.

2. $50.00 or more donation: The aforementioned collectible "Barbara Bain
Card" and an autographed photograph.

3. $75.00 or more donation: The aforementioned "Barbara Bain Card",
autographed photograph, and entry into the special BBI Raffle.

Raffle Items:

- - Original "Alpha Files" art by Judy Moore, matted and framed, along with a
copy of the Alpha Files" fanzine.

- - Helena Russell doll

- - Set of Italian "Mission:Impossible vs. The Mob" Lobby Cards with complete
set of four Mission:Impossible paperback novels

(additional items to be added upon confirmation)

We feel that it is important for Barbara Bain to be considered for her Star
on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this year, in honor of the 30th Anniversary of
her work on Mission:Impossible (where she won three consecutive Emmy Awards)
and in light of the rave reviews for her work in the current Los Angeles
stage hit "The Chairs," among other credits. Please give this fundraiser
your utmost consideration and feel free to email either Terry S. Bowers
directly at: susan.m.bowers@uwrf.edu, or me at: StarParty@aol.com, if you
need more information.

Direct contributions to the fund may be made directly to:

Terry S. Bowers, President
Barbara Bain International
603 N. Clark Street
River Falls, WI 54022
USA

We ask that you please pledge whatever amount you are able to so that the
dream of seeing Barbara Bain's Star permanently enshrined in Hollywood's Walk
of Fame may finally be fulfilled! Your donations must reach Terry no later
than Saturday, May 10, 1997.

Thank you for your consideration -

Sincerely,

Terry S. Bowers

When you think about how small is the probability of two objects
colliding in space after travelling several light years, you must
conclude that some superior intelligence ("God, if you like.") has
sent the Moon away for some purpose and made the breakaway and
          travelling vast distances possible.

This is a nice idea that would explain most of the bad science in
the whole setup of the series. Whether the creators of the show
thought it this way, remains unknown. Probably not.

I think that both the uniforms and the interior of Alpha would be
more "earthly", not so futuristic, maybe even civilian clothes
could be used when off-duty. Plants would be used in the interior,
          maybe even wooden panels.

The uniforms should be practical and to a reasonable extent
comfortable to wear. However, I don't think that they could look
like sporting clothes as the taxpayers watching news from Alpha on
tv would not like to see their money spent on some people going
around in sweaters and sneakers. I think that the uniforms should
look more respectable, more like military uniforms.

Oops, I was thinking about how a REAL space station uniform should
look like. A scifi tv show uniform is totally another thing, a
silver (gold on Koenig) jump suit with zippers in odd places,
          maybe...

I ordered and received a stungun from Clint in early January and i
think it was his last one in stock (as i was told from him).

If you try to reach him, let me tell you that he moved temporally from

Subject: Space1999: Opening teaser lengths

Hi everybody,

Having just gotten through the archive that is in the CyberMuseum, I
saw there was a brief discussion about teaser lengths. Yep...I
compiled the length of the Y1 teasers. Blame a rainy Saturday and
husband who had to work weekends last year for enough time on my
hands to do that. In no particular order, they are (approximate
times):
Space Brain (yes, the longest, w/o drum roll) - 7:03
Troubled Spirit 4:50
Testament of Arkadia 3:11 (no drum roll)
Last Enemy 3:52
Breakaway 4:56
War Games 3:38
Voyager's Return 2:23
Matter of Life and Death 2:32
Collision Course 4:08 (no drum roll)
Force of Life 5:43 (no revolving ITC logo)
Dragon's Domain 1:50
The Infernal Machine 5:35
Another Time, Another Place 4:09
Death's Other Dominion 2:27
Alpha Child 2:16
Ring Around the Moon 4:59
Missing link 2:04
Earthbound 3:24
Guardian of Piri 2:47
Full CIrcle 2:17
The Last Sunset 2:32
Mission of the Darians 4:28
End of Eternity 2:16
Black Sun 2:47

Average length, about 3:35. Seems to be an inverse proportion with
fan preference...Space Brain is widely held to be a "least favorite",
while Dragon's Domain in a perennial favorite.

Subject: Space1999: Where did the Alphans end up?

Hi all.

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but how do the rest of you
picture the Alphans ending up? Did they settle on The Immunity Syndrome
planet, or were they rescued? Do you think John/Helena and Tony/Maya
stayed together? Are they still out there somewhere, floating through
space, living their lives with that wonderful disco soundtrack echoing
in the background!? =

I live in the UK (London) now and have access to the ITC videos, but
grew up in Canada where Space:1999 was aired on the CBC. After it was
cancelled TV Ontario (French version) picked it up and I watched repeats
in French for several years (Cosmos:1999!). The one thing I knew would
never get lost in translation was the "you know something exciting is
about to happen" disco music. Think how many security guards could have
been saved from vaporisation if only they=92d been able to hear that
music. "Uh, oh - disco!! GET DOWN!" It could have served as a musical
Early Warning System.

Sorry, getting silly=85
