The >list >just returned to a more friendly attitude. Just because our questions >aren't >answered easily or right away, doesn't mean the answer isn't out >there. Have >patience. > I'm not trying to start another list war and I've been debating long and hard about whether or not to respond to the above post. Here is my original post: I just received a reply to my letter to MPC / ERTL about the re-issue of Space: 1999 model kits. Unfortunately, I got a form letter thanking me for my interest. A copy of their current hobby product line was included. No Space: 1999 models listed. The list projected kit release dates up to 9/97 so they may be coming after then. Does anyone have anything more concrete in writing? If I recall, this claim about a re-issue of the model kits came out at roughly the same time that "cartoon man" was making his claims about animated episodes. Someone may have seen an opportuinity to throw more buffalo chips on the fire by claiming the models were being re-released. I'm bummed out man. :-( Now, please note the following: 1) I took the time to make a phone call to find out about the model kits 2) When the phone call provided no information, I wrote a letter to ERTL about said models 3) I have promptly reported the results of 1 & 2 for the list for members' information. 4) I think I have the right to engage in speculation that maybe our collective leg was being pulled. I don't think that's being unfriendly. I will agree that the total amount of effort on my part with respect to the phone call and letter and list postings is one hour at most but I did take some of my time to check out something for the benefit of the list. I did not say unequivocally that the wool was being pulled over our collective eyes, I just said that , to the best of my recollection, the toptic of the models being re-issued came up about the same time as the animated series spat and some other practical joker may have decided to stir the pot some more. If my memory is faulty about when the actual model re-issue claims were made, I apologize to whomever made the statement about the models. But I would like to think that I can post to the list without having to "walk on eggshells" about what might offend whom. I also remember detailed pictures showing his vacuform area in this basement/workshop for making the nosecone and other parts; he made the nosecone out of Durhams rock-hard water putty and vacuformed over it. Here's the bad news; when I left a production designer position for a feature film that was to be shot here in Erie (it never got past pre-production) I unintentionally left the magazine behind. Does anybody remember the name of this publication; it was definitely for model building only; no trains or RCs. The pictures/article were printed in a newsprint section with B&W pics; it kills me now that I remember all this, but not the name of the mag. No hoax, this was the only time, before coming to this list a few months back, that I had heard of anyone building an Eagle. I also remember Terry Bowers, 1999 model spaceship builder, remarking in the article that the ship was beautiful; much better than the one actually built for the show (which was built in only two months!). Well how about it? Anyone know tabloid-sized modeling mags enough to send me a few names to jog my memeory. After that, it's only a matter of a little time and research to track this back-issue down. I do have an interview with the guy who built the 44" Eagle that went in front of the cameras(Wag); let me know if you want me to post that here. grog@erie.net *********************************************************** Online Alpha - The Space: 1999 Mailing List To unsubscribe: send email to majordomo@buffnet.net and in the body put unsubscribe space1999 *********************************************************** ------------------------------ From: StarParty@aol.com Date: Sun, 23 Mar 1997 12:15:15 -0500 (EST) Subject: Space1999: re: Eagle Building Mag Article Circa 1987 I meant to forward this to the list the first time! - --------------------- Forwarded message: Subj: Re: Space1999: Re: Eagle Building Mag Article Circa 1987 Date: 97-03-23 12:13:36 EST From: StarParty To: GROG@erie.net In a message dated 97-03-23 09:22:31 EST, GROG@erie.net writes: << I also remember Terry Bowers, 1999 model spaceship builder, remarking in the article that the ship was beautiful; much better than the one actually built for the show (which was built in only two months!). >> This article may have been one about Mr. Lew Place of Rhode Island who built a most beautiful LIFE-SIZE replica of the Eagles pilot compartment.
