I'm not trying to start another list war and I've been debating long and
hard about whether or not to respond to the above post. Here is my
original post:

I just received a reply to my letter to MPC / ERTL about the re-issue of
Space: 1999 model kits. Unfortunately, I got a form letter thanking me
for my interest. A copy of their current hobby product line was
included. No Space: 1999 models listed. The list projected kit release
dates up to 9/97 so they may be coming after then. Does anyone have
anything more concrete in writing? If I recall, this claim about a
re-issue of the model kits came out at roughly the same time that
"cartoon man" was making his claims about animated episodes. Someone may
have seen an opportuinity to throw more buffalo chips on the fire by
claiming the models were being re-released.
I'm bummed out man. :-(

Now, please note the following:
1) I took the time to make a phone call to find out about the model kits

2) When the phone call provided no information, I wrote a letter to ERTL
about said models

3) I have promptly reported the results of 1 & 2 for the list for
members' information.

4) I think I have the right to engage in speculation that maybe our
collective leg was being pulled. I don't think that's being unfriendly.

I will agree that the total amount of effort on my part with respect to
the phone call and letter and list postings is one hour at most but I did
take some of my time to check out something for the benefit of the list.
I did not say unequivocally that the wool was being pulled over our
collective eyes, I just said that , to the best of my recollection, the
toptic of the models being re-issued came up about the same time as the
animated series spat and some other practical joker may have decided to
stir the pot some more. If my memory is faulty about when the actual
model re-issue claims were made, I apologize to whomever made the
statement about the models. But I would like to think that I can post to
the list without having to "walk on eggshells" about what might offend
whom.

If the 12" Eagle model is not to be released, I do remember
John Fleming at Cold North mentioning something a while
back about releasing a 33" Eagle kit; how about it John,
is this going to be released, and if it is, has a price been
set yet?

Subject: Space1999: Re: Eagle Building Mag Article Circa 1987

Back in 1986 or 1987 a tabloid-sized model magazine had
a 6-8 page spread showing a large eagle that was scratch
built by a computer programmer, in his spare time over
a 9 month period. I also remember detailed pictures
showing his vacuform area in this basement/workshop
for making the nosecone and other parts; he made the
nosecone out of Durhams rock-hard water putty and
vacuformed over it.

Here's the bad news; when I left a production designer
position for a feature film that was to be shot here in Erie
(it never got past pre-production) I unintentionally left the
magazine behind. Does anybody remember the name of
this publication; it was definitely for model building only;
no trains or RCs. The pictures/article were printed in a
newsprint section with B&W pics; it kills me now that I
remember all this, but not the name of the mag.
No hoax, this was the only time, before coming to this
list a few months back, that I had heard of anyone
building an Eagle.

I also remember Terry Bowers, 1999 model spaceship
builder, remarking in the article  that the ship was beautiful;
much better than the one actually built for the show
(which was built in only two months!).

Well how about it? Anyone know tabloid-sized modeling
mags enough to send me a few names to jog my memeory.
After that, it's only a matter of a little time and research
to track this back-issue down.

I do have an interview with the guy who built the 44" Eagle
that went in front of the cameras(Wag); let me know if you
want me to post that here.

This article may have been one about Mr. Lew Place of Rhode Island who built
a most beautiful LIFE-SIZE replica of the Eagles pilot compartment. Terry
would have all the details though, and I may be totally off-base (so to
speak!). Terry isn't a model spaceship builder herself, but certainly has a
pulse on the goings on in American fandom over the past 20 years.

had a terrific view of it, and also of Mars which is at it's closest

Hi Alphan cohorts!

As I sit outside (half freezing) and watching the Halle-Bopp Comet
and Lunar eclipse through binoculars, I cannot help but feel very
miniscule.
Imagining how Alphans may have come across such wonders during their
travels and comparing this brief experience and realizing that it
will happen again in 4 millenia makes me understand just how great
this experience is. To top it all off, to watch an eclipse over the
opposite horizon: Too cool!
What are the chances of having 2 wonders happen within the same two
hour span?!
At times like this, I realize life doesn't get any better.
We have our own "base" so to speak, which is in a galaxy, which
itself is far from stationary. Our galaxy travels as Moon Base Alpha
did (but maybe not quite as colorfully, though).

Time to watch "The Testament of Arkadia" and "The Black Sun" again. Then
ponder the beauty and wonders of the universe. To think that we are the

I may just have to travel to the mall and see what I can

You're right. It was nothing short of amazing that these two events
happened on the same night.

I also do not think it's a coincidence that they happened on Palm Sunday.

Hi Ermes, Should we say Welcome back to the list?

Of course when the Alphans do find a home- it may be the
exact opposite. (Not necessarily forced but) encouraged
multiple births and large families to rebuild humanity.

The first time seeing 'Another Time,Another Place' I found it
surprising. All the SF series I had seen presented the future,
if not paradise, at least w/ nature existing in it. Not as pockets of
humanity living out their lives in artificial cities. In Blakes 7 &
THXwhatever,
the people weren't permitted to go outside- but nature was there and had
recovered. Not so in Space 1999's future. Pretty Grim.

The probabilities that the Alphans are the last earthmans in the space,
are
high. "Another Place, Another Time", teaches.........
