Hi all,

I was under the impression that shortly into Season
1Martin Bower built just about all the models. In an
Article from Starlog #58(May 1982) it states that
beginning with Alpha Child, Martin Bower built some 58
different models for S1999, seasons 1&2. In addition,
Brian Johnson used several models he built prior to
working on Space1999. Its quite a good article about
Martin and the Space 1999 models, it also has
blueprints and photos of the ALTARES from INTO
INFINITY(which Martin built FOR Space:1999, including
design cues which give it a family resemblance to the
Eagle, Hawk, Swift, Ultra Probe, and SupeSwift.) I
asked Robert if he wanted to post it, but he said
thats more Marcy's Avenue, and I keep forgeting to ask
her. So Marcy, are you interested? I would be quite
happy to send you a scan of the Article, the Pictures,
and the Blueprints if youre intersted in posting it
for others to view. Just let me know, I can send any
format you like.

Hmmm, never heard of bagged 1999 comics before, are they packaged by whitman
with a big W on the bag?

Are they the oversized comics or the standard size? Also what nubers are in
the bags (I'm guess ing if they are the John Byrne comics it should be the
last three or four issues)

Subject: Space1999: Who Needs Nature? - Continued

Was just thinking the other day about the "Who needs nature" discussion
we had a while back and the idea that ecological disaster was pretty much
considered inevitable in the 70's. I personally didn't really worry too
much about that but I do remember the "energy crisis" was big news back
then. There was a big debate to the effect of "What are we going to do
in 25 years when the oil runs out?" There was a lot of discussion about
nuclear energy being the wave of the future despite the environmental
concerns. In this sense, Space was reflecting the thinking of its times
since all that nuclear waste had to go somewhere. Why not the moon? I
wonder how many of those cannisters they could fit into one Eagle?
(Although in "Breakaway" the one scene of the Eagle unloading the waste
didn't have any cargo pod!) Also, if there was ever a Challenger-type
accident in the Earth's atmosphere with an Eagle full of nuclear waste,
wouldn't that cause a hell of a mess! I seem to remember a Russian spy
satellite breaking up over Canada around 1977 or 78 that sprayed
radioactive debris all over the place.

Hi Marcy:

I just sent a 2.25 Mb Zip file to Mark Meskin (Later Crater fame),
containing the yaer 1 bubblegum trading cards from Donruss. He asked
me something that hadn't occured to me up until then (my head hung
in shame). He suggested I ask you if you would have any interest in
posting the cards on your page. Both the cards and scan are of top
quality, and if you would like to have me send the file to you, just
send me the word.
The only consideration (as far as I know) would be whether or not your
ISP can handle a single file of approximately 2.25 Mb? If that would
be a problem, the cards could be sent individually.

Gotta go for now :)

The Donruss cards are already in the Cyber Museum; they were one of the
earlier items. Separate scans of the front, back, wrapper and box are in
the Wright Collectibles Room.

There's been some talk about Barry Morse in TEKWAR (I saw it and wish he'd
had a bigger part---maybe Shatner's) and thought I'd add my two cents worth
about another show he did, and perhaps he's more famous for in other
circles.......Lt. Philip Gerard in THE FUGITIVE. Six years ago the A&E
cable network began showing THE FUGITIVE episodes on weeknights. I
remembered seeing the
last episode when it aired originally, and began watching when I noticed
Barry Morse's name in the credits (since Victor Bergman is my favorite 1999
character). I was soon hooked on the series and never missed it,
especially enjoying the episodes featuring Morse. His talents as an actor
were showcased very well and the keen analytical mind of Victor Bergman can
almost bee seen in the relelentless detective work and humanity of Lt.
Girard. I strongly recommend this show to anyone who likes classic
television and any fans of Barry Morse

As long as we seem to be on this subject, is anyone else aware of the fact
that Catherine Schell had a nude skinny-dipping scene in a low-budget film
called "Lana, Queen of the Amazons"? I've never seen it, I've only read
about it in a magazine article once a long time ago (Don't bother asking what
magazine, I haven't a clue anymore), the only other thing I can remember
about the article is that she did it under her real name (Catharina von
Schell), and that she refuses to admit she made this film.

The problem here is copyright. After the little Fanderson incident I felt
compelled to pull down my entire article section, The Ruiz Information
Collection, as I had no permission to post any of it. So, the sad truth is
that I can't post any more articles, unless they come with permission from

As a consolation though, article hunters may be interested in hearing about

This is from TV Zone #42:

From Catherine's favourite show to her worst experience; appearing in the
film Lana, Queen of the Amazons, which was made on location in Brazil. "We
had a Hungarian director, Geza von Cziffra. He was an old man, and he was
as mean as he was old. To begin with he was quite nice to me, because I was
Hungarian, but he thought I was totally wrong for the part. He hated tall
women and I'm tall--he imagined me to be really tiny. I had to run around
half naked all the time. I was very modest, having been brought up in a
convent school, and I was terribly young. I was only 19 when I did that. I
had to wear flowers and orchids and jewellery and stuff, and I used to
position everything that nothing peeped out, but I positioned it sometimes
with glue, and he was very annoyed that nothing ever peeped out, you can
imagine. So he used to tear the flowers off me, and when they're glued on
that is very painful. The whole of the filming of it was totally
disastrous. I wanted to give up filming after that. I thought if these are
the sort of people I'd meet, I didn't want to have anything to do with
them."

There isn't (or hasn't) been a 1999 supplement for Gurps as of yet.
Realistically, it shouldn't be difficult to create a set of game
mechanics for the rpg. The most time consuming part(s) would be
properly researching the timeline, equipment capabilities, & skills
of the known characters and so forth. The other potential hangup
could be in the licencing arrangements if the rpg is going to be
published, the other alternative is to release it online and make it
a piece of literary freeware.

If you read this tagline then you must be
incredibly bored!

The answer would be yes, but the set is nothing but a fond memory. I
had
to demolish it last summer after 12 years. It wasn't a fun thing to do,
believe me, but I needed the space in my barn. I still have a 51 inch eagle
which I built many years ago. I've been trying to sell it for years, but:
 1. I hate to get rid of it because it took a year and a half of spare
time to build.
 2. No one wants to pay me what I would have to get for it.
 3. It's not as rigid as the ones made for the series. This is made from
mostly wood, though it looks pretty close to Brian Johnson's famous
version. It's a display piece only, even though I used it in a video
supported by wires (it weighs 13 pounds) without any trouble. The
video is
long gone as well. I got out of fandom years ago, but still keep in touch
with the people I met through 1999. I'm going to be a full time mural
artist as of June 11th when I quit my job. I have so many projects going
on I don't have the time to work on them.
Regarding the set, I have photos of it, and I can send them e-mail if you
have that capability. Just tell me which graphic format is best if you're
interested.
That's about all, thanks for writing!
  Best, Lew

Salute omnesh! (Whoops, the cider's taking effect :-) )

All this talk of topless 1999 stars! It's starting to sound like one of =
those x-files gatherings frequented by 14 & 15 year old lads looking for =
topless (and more) stuff of Gillian Anderson! :-)

Much prefer Jadzia Dax, myself. That classic Trek miniskirt uniform! =
Wowwwww!!!! And then on vacation on Risa!!!! Cold shower time, I =
think!

Off to party,
