At least he got credited. I wonder how many actors were used in the
filming of The Fanboy Menace, and possibly influenced the final look,
actions etc. of the CGI characters they represented, who got no credit.

The essay by Ellison mentioned previously is very good on this subject as is
Ben Bovas Starcrossed which I believe is dedicated to Cordwainer Bird Harlan
Ellisons Psyudonym (SP??) for a television episode that he loses control
over. Cordwainer refers to SF pro and legend Cordwainer Smith and bird of
course stands for the middle finger extended int he direction of Irwin Allen
and the producers of the Starlost.

Check out Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea 1st season episode, The Price of
Doom.

Bova's book Starcrossed was dedicated to Cordwainer Bird. Its a really good
book and should still be in print. Worth a read. Also is Cyberbooks which
is similiar to Starcrossed except its about publishing!

To steer by post back on topic I'll mention that a Ben Bova review of Space
1999 is available from an old NESFA press book (Link is at the Cybrary)
which is called Viewpoints. The book was published by NESFA when Bova was a
guest of honor at one of the Boscone SF conventions (Named after the bad
guys in the classic book series Lensmen) NESFA still has the book in print
if you want to get it. The article/review is from the mid seventies and
given Bova's science background is not very kind to 1999.

Its amazing to me that Harlan Ellison stayed on Babylon 5 as Creative
Consultant for the full run of the show. Terrific! He walked off of the
1985 version of the Twilight Zone after his script, The Nackles was pulled
by network censors.

Here's something even MORE terrible... even if that were still conscious and
using the oxygen, the darkness of the ocean's depths would have enveloped
them as they sank into the ocean, knowing that soon the water pressure would
crush the helmets on their space suits (IF they were still intact) and
eventually their bodies. Remember, too, these suits are designed to keep
pressure in, not out.

Its interesting to note that Jar-Jar Binks will NOT be in the second movie.
At least according to the "rumor" mill. He was not asked to reprise his
role.

Which makes me believe he is free to say what he wants.

Darn funny, too!

Hi
I sent a note about this while the list was in a mess, so I'll send it
again.
When I was on the My Fair Lady Tour , Tony Anholt definately listed
Space 1999 in his bio. I still have it and will provide it if you want.
He was very nice to all of us in the cast and Orch. When the supporting
cast and orch were going to walk out over a pay dispute, he stood with
us which many actors would never do. I never discusse S99 with him, but
then again most of our conversations were in elevators at hotels and
consisted of "Good show" and other such titalating conversation.

Behind a great man is a greater woman.

Without Sylvia and her Love for the business, we wouldn't had great shows
that Gerry Anderson had created since the sixties. It's weird to be
celebrating the convention without her and there is nothing out there
mentioning her from the fan world about her contributions. But then again,
why would you want to bring up "Space:1999" during a time when they were
going through tough times between two people that had loved each other for
so many years. They are still bitter about each other as I understand
reading a recent article I have about Gerry NOT talking about his ex-wife.
Very interesting interview with Mr. Anderson.
It shows a different light about him.

The book is very clear about how she had a big role in his life in success
and Love. The sixties was a great time to be in the lime light and married
but things just didn't work out when they went with live actors and real
stories to write. Egos erupt and "Space:1999" died before the first
episode even went on the air.
Since then, there hasn't been anything beyond the show that can match
something as sophisticated as "Space:1999". It was their last gasp for
original shows and calibration. It was their time.

Yes, you are correct about this. But the Moon could still be traveling
through a much more star-rich area of a galaxy than good old Sol is in.
