click for larger image (14k) click for larger image (24k) click for larger image (16k) The Moonbus seen is 2001 has clear similarities with Space 1999's lunar shuttle, the Eagle. Both craft feature sturdy landing legs, and the front windows are inset (like NASA's Gemini spaceship).

The shot of the pilots seen in the Moonbus windows was reproduced in Space 1999's first episode, as was the shot of the ship landing, seen through a window.

click for larger image (22k) click for larger image (26k) Like 2001, Space 1999 used models with spring legs (filmed in slow motion to simulate weight). Freon gas canisters in the models kicked up lunar dust like real retro rockets.

The landing pads then descended into underground hangars.
