While the Alphans think Koenig is still among them, dying after an eagle crash, he has really been abducted by an alien anthropologist seeking to study him. Writer: Edward di Lorenzo Director: Ray Austin Guest Cast Peter Cushing as Raan Joanna Dunham as Vana |
This has never been one of my favorite episodes, though there are worse. There really isn’t enough story here to fill an hour, so there is lots of padding. Still, there are some wonderful visual effects, like the city on Xenno, contrasted by the spartan accommodations of Raan’s house, which is “made of light.” Peter Cushing, as Raan, fits the style of Space: 1999 like a glove, delivering an impressive performance while still keeping within the low-key atmosphere that characterized the show’s first season. I can’t discuss this episode without bringing up the one production flaw so glaring that I spotted it even as a teenager: on a scene in the Medical Unit, Koenig’s name is misspelled “KEONIG” on a medical monitor, but in the next and previous shots of the same monitor, it is spelled correctly. [I asked Keith Wilson about this at MainMission:2000. His explanation was, “My assistant f–cked up.”] |
