Joan Collins was still earning scale when she appeared in this episode, not long after her appearance on Star Trek in the episode “City on the Edge of Forever” and her forgettable guest appearance as Lorelei Circe, The Siren, on an episode of Batman during its horrific third season. This episode is a good concept, the idea of refugees from a dying planet reduced to cannibalism to survive while its aristocracy uses artificial means to keep themselves alive forever. The design work is flawless, depicting the city-sized spaceship Daria as a massive, cavernous structure designed to contain an advanced civilization before the mission went horribly awry. The episode raises interesting issues about what lengths humanity will go to in order to survive.
