In this episode, the Alphans find themselves drawn into somebody else’s war between the female-dominated world of Betha and the male-dominated world of Delta. The fact that we only see one gender of each faction is underplayed, though, so as not to make it too obvious that the Bethan-Deltan war is basically just a metaphor for the battle of the sexes.

One of my favorite scenes in this episode has Koenig watching the Bethan gunship approach through the window of his office. As it passes over the base, he bolts through his office, across Main Mission and up the stairs to the balcony in a single, sweeping shot that really shows off the set design well.

Still, we are never made privvy to exactly why the Bethans and the Deltans are at war with each other. As long as they’ve been fighting, it’s probable that they don’t remember either. Maybe it was the debate over whether the toilet seat should be left up or down...?
