“The Last Sunset”

Unseen aliens seeking to keep the Alphans away from their planet terraform the barren moon into a temperate paradise.

Director: Charles Crichton

This was a great episode on many levels. First of all, it shows the familiar setting of Moonbase Alpha in a different light, with blue skies and wispy clouds and tangerine sunsets. Secondly, everybody gets to do something. Especially strong in this episode are Paul Morrow and Alan Carter. Helena Russell actually gets to take command of a situation, and shows she is just as capable a leader as she is a doctor. Also in this episode we see some of the best development of the romance between Paul Morrow and Sandra Benes, something hinted at throughout the first season. Yes, this episode has everything: sex (well, a kiss), drugs (Paul’s Magic Mushrooms), and my favorite spear carrier Andy Dempsey, as Guy In Main Mission Who Never Says Anything #4, actually gets to speak!

It was a good episode, but still, the idea that humanity is some infecting virus is getting a little old. Can’t these aliens give us a little respect now and then?
