SPACE: 1999
An Episode-by-Episode
Analysis

by Matt Butts

There were two seasons of Space: 1999, each so drastically different from the other that they could almost be considered two separate shows. Sets and costumes underwent a total makeover, major characters disappeared without explanation, and new characters showed up out of nowhere. And a new character, a shape-shifting alien (long before special effects technology was ready for it) was introduced. Therefore, a great rift exists among fans of the series as to which format is superior. Both have their outspoken supporters and their outspoken opponents. It is a battle which will no doubt wage on long after the chicken and egg debate is resolved.
