Phil Plait will be the first to tell you how wonky the science on Space: 1999 was. But it was his love for the show that made him what he is today, a talented young astronomer who heckles bad science in the movies on his Bad Astronomy web site. Phil presented a “Reality Check” for the convention, where he discussed the unlikelihood that an explosion strong enough to hurl the moon out of orbit would not vaporize the moon, but how throughout the show you got the impression that an unseen hand, popularly referred to as the MUF or Mysterious Unknown Force, is trumping science to protect the Alphans.

Phil is one cool geek.
