COMM POSTS

Moonbase Alpha's primary means of interbase communication, comm post units function as access devices to Alpha's communications, scanner, and computer systems. Throughout the 48 episodes of Space: 1999, comm posts were positioned at strategic public points throughout the moon base-everywhere from corridors, to recreation centers, to laboratories, etc. During Series 1, comm posts were also located in private spaces such as the base Commander's office adjoining Main Mission, and in all Alphan living quarters units as well. In addition to their interbase communication function, prior to Breakaway comm posts could also be used to communicate with Earth as well.

The two images above compare and contrast the two styles of comm posts used in Series 1 (left) and Series 2 (right). Essentially the same, only the signage changed between the two seasons, and a new style of speaker grill was added in Series 2. Click here to see representative Series 1 comm post signage in detail, and here to see representative signage from Series 2. Note that the round location graphic would change depending on one's location within the moon base. The examples above indicate the Services section.
