SERIES 2 SPECIFIC LOCATIONS SIGNAGE

At some point during the pre-production phase of Space: 1999's second season, it was decided to change the look of the series. Gone was the subtle, elegantly stylish, timeless and understated tone-on-tone look of Series 1. In its place, color was injected at every opportunity, and signage graphics in particular became more obvious (even to the point of the Eagle's weapons rack in Devil's Planet sporting a sign that read "Weapons Rack"). Clearly this effort was geared toward bringing new viewer's to the series up to speed quickly.

One of the more successful changes was the abandonment of the "computer style" Countdown typeface, which was difficult to read on screen and tends to look a bit dated today. While the exact replacement typeface used is unknown at this time, Roberto Baldassari has used the similar Gill Sans Bold for the signage displayed on this page.

If you have any information on the exact replacement typeface used during Space: 1999's second season, please email Roberto Baldassari. If the exact typeface can be determined, new graphics using the proper typeface will be created.

Please note that the British spellings used on Space: 1999's original signage have been retained for the graphics above. While some of the graphics appear throughout the series (or at least in multiple episodes), a few of the episodes where some of the more unusual signage displayed above can be viewed are The Exiles, The Taybor, Catacombs of the Moon, Space Warp, and The Beta Cloud.
