Stylized Moonbase Alpha diagrams and destination schedules are located throughout the base at Travel Tube Reception Areas or at the curved corridor corners adjoining them. Click here to see a detailed view of the schedule under the diagram, and here and here to see it as it appears in detail in image captures from Series 2's Seed of Destruction. (Note that the text on the schedule appears in a generally [but not strictly] alphabetical fashion.) A similar graphic was used throughout much of Series 1, but the stylized Moonbase Alpha diagram was later simplified to the version shown here. It is the opinion of this exhibit's creators that the colorful abstract overlaying the diagram of the moon base was intended only as a stylized representation of the base, rather than to denote particular areas or sections. This colorful, easily recognizable graphic would also serve to make the Travel Tube access points more visible within the maze of generally similar and potentially confusing Alphan corridors. |

TRAVEL TUBE ROUTE MAPS Located above the three doors within each of Moonbase Alpha's Travel Tube cars, the graphic at left represents a flow chart (rather than literal) view of the Travel Tube's course and possible destinations along the line it serves. To see it in context, click here to see four views of the over-door signage as used in the series. |

Although every effort has been taken to present completely accurate representations of the graphics shown above, none of the actual props produced by Keith Wilson's Space: 1999 art department were available for reference. Instead, a number of video captures from the series were used as source material, but in some cases, some approximation of exact details and texts was unavoidable. An example of this artistic license can be found in the graphic of the Travel Tube destinations schedule. Owing to the close-ups in Seed of Destruction

(see images linked above), it was possible to obtain an image that provided the exact text on the right side of the schedule-for which we are grateful and indebted to director Kevin Connor. Unfortunately, there is no image in the series that provides a legible glimpse of the graphic's left side, and here Roberto Baldassari was forced to take some artistic license, and even to include a bit of whimsy: if you look closely you will see an internationally famous fast food hamburger chain listed on the schedule-McDonald's! |
