The Needlework Universe is one unofficial what if… spinning off of premises found in POWYS Media’s Forsaken. In thisstory, following the events of Y1, Paul and Tanya steal an Eagle and lead a small group of disillusioned Alphans to colonize the planet Pyixdea. They leave a wrecked landing pad behind, as well as broken bonds of friendship and trust. This is the basis for the fanfic stories of The Needlework storyline.
But…. what if the background events leading up to this decision are just barely, subtly, andvery profoundly, different?
What if… the questions Koenig asked at the onset of Journey to Where are simply not detailed enough to reveal that Dr. Logan’s Earth is not the one our Alphans come from?
What if… Paul and Tanya do not leave Alpha. If, in fact, the Alphans never cross paths with Pyixdea?
What if… there are no narrow escapes from the damages threatened by Gwent, the Sidons, the Bethans and all the others? That the extensive loss of life and catastrophic systems failures narrowly averted actually did happen? That Alpha is rendered a barely functioning disaster zone by the end of the first year in space?
What if… there is an Alpha from a time line just barely divergent, and yet very different, from the one we know of from the televised series?
What if… the characters we know do not follow exactly the same life paths in this other timeline? That some have yet to be assigned to Alpha by that fateful 13th of September? And others we know as Earth based, are, in fact, assigned to Alphan duty?
What if… this other Alpha does, in fact, come from Dr. Logan’s timeline?
What if ??
The Dark Threads stories were inspired by events in the episode "Journey to Where" and speculated on by the characters in the Needleworks Universe in the following stories, which should be read prior to reading the Dark Threads stories:
