“Wake up, lover boy.”
“Mmmm, Susan? What time is it?”
“Early. It’s Christmas, Robbie. I have a present for you.”
Robert chuckled. “What is it, Sus? Some kind of sex toy you don’t want to have me unwrap in front of the family?”
“When have you ever needed a sex toy… other than me? And I already modeled that negligee you bought me. Dirty old man.”
“Who’s old, Woman?” Robert growled.
“Sit up, will you? The girls might get up any minute now.”
Robert sat up. “The girls are in college now, and probably won’t be up before noon unless we drag them out of bed. They already know they’re getting that ski trip from us, and the presents under the tree are all ski clothes that they helped you and Lisa pick out.” He pulled Susan into his lap. She cooperated, straddling him and kissing him quickly, then leaning over the edge of the bed and pulled a shoebox size package from under the bed.
“Open it!” She urged.
“Um, you’re kind of distracting me, you know.”
Susan scooted back so that she was perched on his thighs, closer to his knees than his crotch. He leaned forward and kissed her, then tore the paper. It was a shoebox. “Shoes? They must be some shoes to get you this worked up.” He looked at the end of the box. “And they’re your size. Am I supposed to share?” He winked.
“Stop it! Just open the package.” She softened the order by caressing his thigh.
He opened the box to find a thick envelope, a road map and an AAA triptik.
“What the hell is this?” He opened the envelope. There was a deed, a color brochure and a settlement statement from a property closing.
“It’s a time share.”
“A what?”
“One of those vacation things. Remember last September when I brought Katherine down here to that horse show?”
“I remember. Seems to me you two spent a week down here and came back with these terrific tans and no ribbons from the show.”
“Well, it was only a little day show, but we took a side trip over to Arizona, and met up with a couple of other girls, and we all bought these time shares for our husbands for Christmas. It’s a new place over in Arizona--- three golf courses, a restaurant and night club, a whole street full of cute little shops. We all got the same week, so we’ll have friends to visit with and golf with…”
“What week?”
“The week between Christmas and New Years. We’ll leave here tonight after dinner, drive as far as El Paso tonight, and be there by lunchtime tomorrow!”
“Away from your parents?”
“Away from my parents,” she leaned forward and whispered seductively. “And you were such a good boy, agreeing to take the week off and come down here, without knowing my ulterior motive.”
“Aren’t you the sly one!” He pulled her closer.
“It was Katherine’s idea,” Susan shared the credit with her old friend and former college roommate. “Then when the girls cooked up that ski trip with their old high school crowd, it all kind of came together.”
“I’m still not certain about that, letting the girls go off on their own for Christmas break.”
“Oh, honey, you’ve already agreed to it. Besides, they’ve been on their own all term long down at Tulane. It’s not like they have a curfew or a protective house leader like I did.”
“I don’t really like that either.”
“You are such an overprotective bear,” Susan scooted closer into his embrace. “You’ll love the condos at the timeshare. Comfortable bed, lovely bathroom with a great big shower.”
“Big enough for two?”
“Mmmhmm.” She nibbled at his ear.
“This sounds like a terrific Christmas present. Do your parents know when we’re leaving?”
“Yes, I already told them. I just couldn’t wait any longer to tell you. I’ve been about to burst.”
Robert rolled over, scattering the paperwork and trapping Susan beneath him. He gave her a long kiss full of promise. “A whole week together.”
“A whole week. Golf and sunshine during the day… and the nights…”
“Just you and me, Susie. No kids, no parents.”
“Merry Christmas, my love.”
He kissed her soundly, pressing his growing interest against the soft skin of her inner thigh.
“Do you really think I’m a dirty old man?” He said with a smile.
She stretched against him and moved her hand between their bodies to stroke him. “Hmm…I must say that at this age I prefer the antics of an old cow poke like yourself.”
Robert pushed against her hand. “Now, I see what you want. You want to whisk me away to Arizona so you can get a good poke.”
Susan laughed out loud. Robert reached down and pushed her gown up to her hips. “I have news for your Mrs. Thompson. This old cowboy can’t wait until Arizona. He’s ready to poke you right now.”
Susan batted at Robert’s roaming hands. “I think you, one-eyed Jack and the boys are feeling a bit frisky this morning.”
Robert positioned himself to enter his wife. “Come on, Sus, you know you don’t want to make Jack and the boys wait until tonight. They’ll turn blue…”
Susan laughed louder. “I stopped falling for that old line back in college.”
Robert inched closer to his wife. “Better grab that headboard honey, Jack is feeling impatient this morning.”
KNOCK!
“Mom? Dad?” Melissa called from behind the closed door.
“SHIT!” Robert muttered.
“Just a second, Missy.” Susan reached up cupped Robert’s cheek.
“I swear she takes after your father! Her timing is as bad as his!” Robert grumbled as he rearranged his clothes and moved back under the covers and away from his wife.
Susan laughed as she watched Robert scoot to a respectable distance away from her. “Come on, Missy.”
Melissa bounced into the room, jumping onto the foot of her parent’s bed.
“Merry Christmas!” She shouted.
“Merry Christmas to you, Sweetheart.” Susan smiled at her daughter.
“You’re up early.” Robert practically grumbled.
“I can’t wait to open our gifts! Besides, Granddaddy says the best time of the day is sunrise! Come on you two, daylights burnin’!” Melissa jumped off the bed and was out of the room before Robert could respond.
“She is her grandfather’s granddaughter.” Robert grumbled again as he unfolded himself from the blankets. In a mocking tone he repeated his father in law’s favorite phrase, “Daylight’s burnin’….bullshit!”
He heard Susan’s laughter behind him and stopped. “Laugh now woman while you still can. When I get you to Arizona, I’ll change that laughter into screams.”
Susan winked at him. “Oh, I hope so.”
“Yep, a woman like you needs a good old cow poke every now and then.” He said as he closed the bathroom door.
Susan lay back in the bed giggling. Oh, she was so looking forward to their time alone. Just the three of them, Susan, Robert and one-eyed Jack.
