This special edition of Space:1999 is a must-buy set for Gerry Anderson fans and anyone who likes sci-fi in general. Even the people who bought the previous DVD issue of Space: 1999 will want this. Why? Simple really - this is the ultimate edition of series one.

Special features aside, the quality of the episodes themselves is astounding - they have never looked this good before. For this DVD release they are being taken from  HD remastered prints which have been created specifically for this release. The source materials for the episodes are newly created 35mm inter-positive picture elements which are being transferred in HD on the state-of-the-art Philips Spirit Datacine. This transfer process includes shot-by-shot grading and colour matching for consistency, particularly on the inferior shots featuring optical FX work like laser fire and these are matched as closely as possible to the surrounding scenes in an attempt to maintain colour quality. In addition, noise reduction devices reduce the film grain and a manual clean-up stage removes the remaining blemishes and other image flaws in the original film materials. The result is a clean vibrant image with more detail than in previous transfers as well as the recovery of more picture area from the 35mm frame revealing never before seen information.
