Ufo: 1999 era il nome che inizialmente i coniugi Anderson volevano dare a Spazio 1999 che nacque inizialmente da un progetto abortito del 1970 di una seconda stagione della serie UFO. Gerry Anderson aveva in mente un sequel di detta serie, in cui il comandante Straker sarebbe riuscito a realizzare una base lunare per la SHADO ben più grande di quella operativa nel 1980. Ma l'idea non trovò mai il favore di chi avrebbe dovuto finanziarla a causa del calo degli indici di ascolto di UFO per cui il progetto venne prima accantonato e in seguito ripreso e trasformato drasticamente. Il nostro nuovo progetto si basa su una sceneggiatura ORIGINALE che tende a spiegare che cosa successe negli anni 90 in cui, nell'universo creato da Gerry Anderson, i terrestri sconfissero (forse) gli alieni.
